windows live mail and sky changes

i have also received an email from sky saying that my windows live mail on my windows 10 laptop will stop functioning on 13th december.
i have numerous folders storing thousands of emails going back many years that i do not want to lose (or lose the folders they are stored in). i've been reading about thunderbird but there seems to be issues with different file formats between the two email clients that makes this a far from simple process.
is there any other supported email client that would allow me to simply transfer everything over, retaining the storage folders and stored emails presently on my laptop?
any suggestions in laymans terms would be much appreciated.

You can continue to use Live Mail as storage for what you have now, the folders won't just vanish into the ether.
Live Mail is unfortunately an old piece of software now, dating from 2012 and is out of support.
You should be able to import directly to Thunderbird with use of an add-on for Thunderbird, details here:
