O/S Daily Saturday 30th November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv with a cuppa, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge as I'm working this morning. DS1 still in his pit and DS2 settled and ok.
Dark, cold, foggy and frosty.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, fried mash, mushrooms and beans. Not sure about tonight, but want to keep using up what I have in the freezer so will have a sort through and perhaps have a few picky bits with either hot new potatoes or skinny chips, salad and coleslaw.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive again and got bits done that I wanted, although I decided to get some wrapping done realised I hadn't got enough gift wrap - so will need to get some.
I was also going to put the oven cleaner on the oven last night then clean it off this morning and I completely forgot to do it so that's another job that needs doing, it needs doing shortly as it's an awful state.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another cold and frosty start for us.
Not a full postponed Friday Tidy left to do today as, once the DGDs had been collected yesterday afternoon, I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom. So just a dust and vac round left to do today.
But first I want to get the bus into town as I have a reserved item to collect from Argos and also a collect in store order from Holland and B. I think I will also get more Xmas bags as it's so much easier than wrapping. Not very MSE, considering I already have loads of rolls of paper, but far less stressful when it comes to wrapping awkwardly shaped stuff!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :hello:
The service went really well on thursday. I had a wobble at the beginning – when you walk in, I've always been behind other people because there's closer family than me. So I've always just followed them. I found myself at the front and I had no idea if I should leave some space between us or just walk immediately behind the coffin, I whispered to SIL “I don't think I'm supposed to be here!” and she said “me neither, let's just keep going”. If the brothers were with us we'd have been at the front but they were carrying the coffin and we felt a bit odd, being just in-laws when his other relatives – sister, grandchildren, niece, nephew – were behind us. We got to the front and I didn't know whether to wait or not, I threw the undertaker my best “help me” face, lol, and he came over, stood in front of us and indicated to everyone that they should take their places. I mouthed “thank you” and he gave us a little smile
The cricket music at the end went down well, everyone started laughing and I heard a couple of comments - “typical Mike” and “he'd have loved that”
We went for a carvery afterwards, the place was decorated for Christmas and looked lovely, so I chose turkey and had an early Christmas dinner, lol.
After a few minutes of driving up the road yesterday, we remembered it was black friday and almost came straight back homeWe popped to Morrisons for Christmas bits and picked up an order form for food for next week's service. After much discussion, it was estimated that anything up to 200 people will be there and the form was filled in. They've mixed up their numbers I think, I'm sure this amount of food will actually feed 2000! I said it was far too much but the brothers insisted it was all needed so I shut up and brought the form home, I'll order it today.
There's a lovely sparkly frost this morning so I've turned the heating up and lit a couple of scented candles, it's nice and cosy here and I don't want to go outsideI expect the chickens water will need defrosting and I'll put Scamp's coat on him when we go out. He starts to shiver after a few minutes (short fur and a bare tummy!) so he needs it. He's not keen on it, anything tight-ish on his body and he starts to panic. Even after all this time with us, he still worries about certain things. He looks so cute in it though

I've finally relaxed a bit and I'm feeling a bit tired, so I'm just going to potter about for the rest of the day and will probably fall asleep on the sofa this afternoon.Bulletproof0 -
Morning All
Very cold this morning but hoping for sunshine so I can put the bedding out for a while. I've a parcel to collect and some logs to buy but that's about it for outside.
I'm trying to make a bag so that should keep me occupied for quite some time today, quite looking forward to using the sewing machine again.
Sounds like the service went well tru, it's always nice to have personal music that makes folk smile.
Hoping the poorlies and injured are making headway.
Off to clean the bathrooms and have a shower, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
We had long day yesterday but managed to get Steve's hearing aid repaired, get a definitive answer on the payments he will be receiving from work, fit in a small shopping trip and help a neighbour get her boat back on the jetty.
He was worn out after all that so took it easy for the rest of the day.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all. X
Well it's that cold here it took 2 attempts for the dog to go in the garden and do her morning business and now she is curled up under a blanket on the sofa lol.
Got the dgd coming today and yesterday at 7.10am she called me to ask if I was putting my Xmas stuff up today. Almost had a heart attack when my phone rang as she never calls that early unless there is a problem. So gonna have words with dd today.
Did the supermarket shopping yesterday so just the butcher and market for veg left for tomorrow.
Must remember to feed the Xmas cake today.
Dh is coming down with a cold (man flu alert) so need to get some more meds in.
Gonna make cookies with dgd today if she wants to.
Right enough of me blabbering on. I need to get started on the morning chores before she gets her.
Hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Good morning, thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
We have a bitterly cold day with a hard frost. I've been out to feed the birds and in seconds, a Robin was there for his breakfast, followed by one of the magpies, an extremely well-upholstered wood pigeon and a squirrel. I've just spotted wood pigeon 2 hanging about.
I was quite lazy yesterday after a poor night but have more energy today so I'll do some jobs.
Tru, glad it went well on Thursday.
Hope everyone has a decent day today.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a bit chilly here this morning so the heating will be going on in a minute. I'm very excited because today is the day we put our Christmas tree up and decorate the living room. This year the grandchildren want to help so I will be waiting till the afternoon when they are coming over.
We have a man coming to measure up for some blinds this morning so Steve is going to clear off the windowsills so he can actually get to them. One of the windows belongs to Lee so goodness knows what he will make of his bedroom. Lee promised to clear it up a bit yesterday so I hope he stuck to his word. Mind you, our bedroom is not much better with the contents of the dining room piled in there and also all the boxes and bags of Christmas presents:o.
I managed to stay upstairs in bed till 4am this morning so it is slowly improving. The new duvet makes a lot of difference although Steve complained of being cold in there this morning. I am just going to keep persevering until I can stay up there for a whole night.
lonewhitewolf, I also panic when we get a phone call early in the morning or late at night as it always seems like bad news. To be fair it is usually our oldest daughter needing some help or advice xx
tru, I'm really glad the service went well. My stepdad had the song "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" for his funeral and it always makes me smile and think of him whenever I hear it. I bought Bobby a new coat too and he looks so cute in it. I hope Scamp gets used to his quickly xx
We are going to have sausage and mash for dinner tonight and leftover lasagne for lunch so it's just breakfast to think about. I fancy scrambled eggs on toast so I will have to bat my eyelashes at Steve to get him in the kitchen :rotfl:
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning, it's bright and sunny here with a hard frost. Nice to see the sun.
Tru, I'm glad all went well at Fil's service on Thursday.
LWW- it does give you a fright when the phone rings early or late.
Not a lot happening today, just the usual stuff. (as far as I know anyway) Next Saturday is Tree Day, when the family descend to decorate the tree. In the next few days we'll put the other decs up, we put a lot of stuff up. By the end of this week I want to have Saturday's food sorted, they are all good eaters. I wish I had more room in the freezer, I would do more in advance.
Hope everyone has a good Saturday anyway,
Take care folks0 -
Morning all
Brrrr very cold here but does not seem to be a frost, will try and hang a wash out for a while. The man came yesterday and fixed the TD so we have that as a back up and for the winter which is good.
Today I am going food shopping with my dd we will go to Aldi but I will also need to go to sainsbugs for dog food, they do a really good natural one and sugar free stick treats which evie loves.
I might nip into B & M as well as a friend at work bought a paper chain kit in there which the clients have been making, one of the chains had toy soldiers on and it was very very cute so I might get a set, I dont have any hanging decorations but thought these would look nice above the mirror.
We are out for a meal tonight to celebrate all the family Birthdays which will be lovely.
I might start getting a few christmas food bits to put in the freezer and I need some sausage meat to make some sausage rolls.
Tru glad it went well xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
I've just been lying in bed listening the radio. It's very cold outside though beautifully bright.
Yesterday was tiring again, it's all the stairs. I must do more. Now I need to wake DM and start our day. Her crossword friend will be coming later this afternoon.
Dumpling - have you considered separate duvets? It's so much better and standard practice in many mainland European countries.
Thoughts to our poorlies. Happy St Andrew's Saturday.0
