Painting/Decorating

Got someone coming to quote on Monday but want to ensure I won't get fleeced - I can either supply paint or they can and pretty sure that most areas don't need gloss - this will be emulsion only. Any ideas what to reasonably expect?

Well it all depends. What is on the wall at the moment? Does wall paper have to be stripped? Is there a lot of making good to the walls? Filling? Sanding? Are you having light colours painted over existing dark colours (this will take at least an extra coat)

If you buy the paint, you need to get trade quality - Crown/Dulux/Macphersons. Buying cheap stores unbranded paint will need more coats, so will cost more in labour to apply.

And do you really not want to get the woodwork done? Newly painted walls will show up the poor state of the woodwork.

Sorry I should have been more explicit. The house is 3 years old and ALL walls are magnolia :) no real filling needed and no wallpaper to strip. Will be painting a darker colour (like Dulux soft truffle). Not sure what was used on the skirting previously but its not oil based gloss perhaps eggshell and has not yellowed but perhaps you are right!

It's a big house. You don't mention Hall stairs and landing.

I would suggest 3 weeks work, without gloss work.

So whatever a decorator would charge you per day x 15 plus consumables plus paint.

I'm not very good at this am I :) Yes there is a hall and upstairs landing as well - and its fairly large (and tall) but not sure of measurements.
