Ford Fiesta Recall - Possible compensation?

Hi everyone,

The electric power steering recently went on my car (2013 Ford Fiesta ST), I did some research and even got it towed to my local garage for confirmation and it turns out many have been recalled due to needing a software update.

So I messaged someone online at Ford regarding this who told me to check the Ford Etis website for outstanding recalls.

When I have inputted my car's details on the Ford Etis website, it states "OUTSTANDING FIELD SERVICE ACTIONS - 17S09 - 1.6L GTDI COOLING SYSTEM"

Funnily enough, last year I had 2 coolant leak issues which lead to my head gasket going, of course this was all very costly. Now my car is booked in with Ford for the 9th December (won't be done until the 11th) so have to wait even longer without a car.

Sorry for the life story, my main question is, can I be compensated for the previous repairs or would I have to follow some form of long complaint process for any form of compensation?

Thank you in advance!

Unless someone from Ford tells us different the action on ETIS isn't a recall, merely an action to be checked/carried out at the next service

Have you owned the car from new and is it serviced at main Ford dealer ? If so has it been to dealer since the date of the action notice.

I can't see you having anything to gain in this unless you can prove not carrying this out was a cause and that the Ford network failed to carry out the work when the had the opportunity to do so

If you've had it serviced at Ford, then maybe, as they should check for outstanding actions. If not, then unlikely, because it's not a recall, and Ford haven't seen your car to check if it's outstanding or not - but nothing to stop you contacting Ford
  • How long have you owned the car?

You took your car to a local garage, not a Ford dealer, and you're upset because the garage didn't pick up on a recall...?

Well, you can always ask them for a refund. You don't have any right or entitlement to one, though.

Should they have known there were issues? Yes. The cooling system issues on 1.6 EcoBoosts are hardly news.

Was the work directly related to the precise recall issue?
The recall on the 1.6s is not cooling system related, and is not to do with coolant leaks. It's not even directly related to the head gasket. It's related to the head itself cracking, resulting in a high pressure oil leak that can catch fire. The recall includes fitting a coolant level sensor because the level will drop when the head cracks.
