Re insurance if he is a memeber of the musicians union I think they include public liability ins as part of their membership but do check.
You say guitar but what type, even classical guitar sounds can carry but I suspect electric might be quite loud.0 -
Does make everyone question whether their own insurance allows them to work at all from home - as most people do at some point. In fact, companies actively encourage it by hotdesking.0

There is a difference between working from home and running a business from home.
Normally the concern insurance companies have is the customers coming to the house.
Working from home is just doing what you do in work and with very exceptions is just computer and telephone work with no customers visiting.
Hotdesking is a different concept to working from home. The idea being that desks aren't strictly allocated to a person. It means that desks will be available for visiting staff because people will be on leave, visiting other site etc.
We have Hotdesking at work. It works quite well because a number of staff have roles that require them to work at 2 or more different sites during the week. This leaves desks available for visiting staff.
Some companies have embraced working from home in a big way and if your role is all phone and computer work then they allow it for 5he majority of their workforce. One company that I worked for managed to get so many people working from home that they managed to hand back one of the floors that they leased in an office block.0 -
No, there isn't.unforeseen wrote: »There is a difference between working from home and running a business from home.
And for some businesses, that's not an issue at all, ever.Normally the concern insurance companies have is the customers coming to the house.0 -
In your shoes I'd probably say no, just on the grounds it may not stop at one student.
You could always say yes provided you get a cut of the money. That was not a 100% serious suggestion by the way.0 -

A lot of obvious info there about working from home but that's not what I meant.
If you have a work laptop and it sets on fire, or you trip over cables, or confidential files went missing etc just wondering how that works with the company and or the House insurance policy.0
