I purchased a second hand Acer Aspire1 laptop on E Bay at a cheap price, purely as back up to use in case of need. I knew it was going to be a basic machine It has connected to my Virgin Wi Fi OK, but when I try using the internet explorer or Google on it a message appears HTTP 404 not found. What do I need to to get it to connect to the internet. It is connected to Windows 7. Help wanted please.

A 404 error is one returned from the web site you are trying to connect to, its not a computer issue, that's a website issue - means the page you've tried to load does not exist on that site.

never mind searching from the address bar (which sounds like what you're doing), just type in something we all know and works - https://www.google.com, https://www.bbc.co.uk and https://www.amazon.co.uk for example. What happens if you type those addresses in and press Enter? Does Google load? Does the BBC load? Does Amazon work?0 -
Press the Windows key
Type in CMD and then press Enter
In the black box that appears, type in ipconfig /all and press Enter.
