  • Belfast a normal DO or Belfast returns centre?

If it's the returns centre then perhaps the address is undeliverable/incorrect - has the label fallen off, did you check the address on the RM address checker?
  • the front of parcel has the royal mail postage paid sticker from belfast 534 with small barcode. It's not like a regular postage label so has definitely been returned back via Royal Mail. The back of mailer however also has a sticker and reads if undeliverable return to National Returns Centre, Enterprise Way, Newtownabey, BT36 4HQ. I don't know if it means this has gone there already of it it meant that if undeliverable when returning back to sender it would then go on to the returns centre. It's all very confusing and for the sake of a £7.99 record I don't really want to be hanging on for half an hour to royal mail and get nowhere then wonder if it's worth resending for the same thing to happen. Is there anything online I can do to get a relatively quick response?

on the 15th I sent a vinyl record to Northern Island using 2nd class recorded delivery. Today I received the item back from Royal Mail within their blue outer mailer and the barcode shows that is has been returned by Royal Mail via Belfast but it doesn't appear to have been handled by the recipient. Normally anything returned by royal mail will have a sticker on it with a tick marked against the reason for return. In this case there is not one detail as to why it has been returned. Added to that, someone within the parcel system has oppened the item up by cutting along the top of the mailer but in doing that also cutting through about 1cm of the outer sleeve.

I send out vinyl records regularly using special vinyl card mailers and all go small parcel post so it isn't because I've sent via an incorrect size or paid the wrong postage. The tracking number only shows that it has been accepted by my local post office on the 15th and gives no further details of the shipment during the course of it's delivery even though now it has made it all the way back to the sender.

I really don't want to waste time and money on the phone to Royal Mail but this just seems wierd and I obviously have to explain to the customer exactly what has happened. I don't mind resending at my expense if it's something incorrect that I've done, but I know in this case I havn't.

Do you put a return address on your items?
Is the address complete on the mailer you used?
What does the tracking for your signed for barcode give?
  • Please answer the questions at 2 and 4.
  • royal mail stamp hasn't fallen off still intact.
the address exists and can be viewed on google search
the attached invoice has my return label on the flipside. Attach invoice hasbeen opened and they have used my address within invice to return to sender.

Size of parcel is small as normally send thesemailers out up and down the country so no mistakes made there. Customer says they have received no calling card and even if this was the case and they were out there is no attached sticker to give details as to the return.

So you dont put a return address on your items is the short answer?
Why its been returned I cant answer but we know why it went to the NRC.
  • as far as I know it didn't go to the NRC it stated on outer packaging to be returned to NRC if the package was undeliverable to myself. My address was on the front of parcel as the invoice had been turned around to show my delivery address.

I've not long come off the phone to royal mail and they say it's a mystery but the only conclusion they can draw up is that it might have been damaged during postage and so returned back to me. I was told to go back to the post office and ask for another stamp to replace the original 2nd class stamp and resend the item. I can't see the grumpy guy behind the post office desk up the road happily replacing the original stamp when he's going to say it's already been used. I asked the royal mail customer service assistant if they could send through an email just as proof that they have given the go ahead for me to do this and all I got was an extention number if there was an issue. It's probably best to just make a claim and get the postage costs back as the tracking still doesn't show that this item has even been returned back to me and that was 2 days ago

It went to the NRC as it becomes the return address if it cant be returned to sender.
Trust me,seen hundreds of NRC items.
I wouldn't bother with the PO. I think its very poor advice from RM.
I would repay and put a claim in with RM for the wasted postage.
