  • I'm guessing I'm pretty basic contributions with no top ups. Would that be fair to guess?

I have a priviate pension from my work. Its a about £350 per month, i think.
Pension income of £350/month is less than £85/week and would not affect contribution based ESA. If your claim is contribution based only and you are receiving £108.66/week then your pension would need to be £90.98/week which is £394.25/month.

  • So,you think I'm ok with renting my house out then? No foul play?

I don’t know yet. The information you have provided about your ESA amount and pension account are not consistent as I explained. Equally the figures don’t make sense for an income based award. It is difficult to advise without accurate information.

As previously stated the best way for you to check is to look at an award letter and see what the calculation says.

It’s important that you know anyway in order to complete your tax return as contribution based ESA is taxable and has to be included on the tax return whereas income based ESA is not taxable and does not have to be included.

That is consistent with you have a contribution based award of the amount you stated. It’s a safe bet that your award is contribution based only.
That means your rental income does not matter for ESA.
You must declare the ESA on your tax return.

  • Ok. Thank you. I most definitely will. Thank you so much for your time.
Every few months I have to send info allowing them to contact my pension provider so i am very honest with them. I don't think I am receiving any top ups either.
    Thank you again.
