Has anyone here dealt with https://www.ecofundingsolutions.co.uk/

My sister replied to oneof their adverts and they have offered to organise a "no obligation" viewieng and quote for replacing her current windows and doors.

As I've not heard about them I thought here might be a good place to see if anyone has dealt with them in the past- or knows anymore about them?

Much appreciated!

  • The criteria seem pretty broad:

"What are the Criteria for Funding?
    • You must be a homeowner (no council or housing association)
    • You must be either Employed, Self Employed or Retired"
But they're not actually that broad, because you have to give them a quantity of personal information, then they'll tell you if you qualify. Seems a bit opaque. Also, don't bother applying if you're unemployed. Sucks to be you! It talks in vaguely charitable terms but there's no charity number on there.

    This phrase is interesting:

"Every Technical Survey arranged by Eco Funding Solutions adds to the pot of money available for window and door grants."

Is this some kind of lead-generation scheme run by or on behalf of a group of window installers?

How about if you don't qualify for a grant?

"Using funding options, you can spread the cost of new windows & doors and eliminate the need to part with any large sums of money; in fact, many of these funding options require absolutely no upfront costs.
Your needs will be accessed on a case by case basis to ascertain the level of funding required to obtain new windows and doors for your property."

Here's my attempt at translating this:

"We'll arrange a credit agreement for you to buy windows from us. The more windows you need, the larger the credit agreement will be."

They could "qualify" a handful of applications and charge the rest full price, and every word on that website would be true. I am mightily sceptical about how generous this all is, BICBW.
  • Yes- This is why I am really interested to hear if anyone has dealt with them. Thanks for your input.

What does your sister think it is?

This is clearly double glazing sales on tick. If you can't afford to pay for it up front, they'll offer you credit for it, if you qualify.

There's no grant. There's no discount, it's just sucking you in. No mention of the interest rates.

It's cow poop, preying on the vulnerable by focussing on SEO keywords.

Quite likely the same bunch of [.....] that called on me last spring. Had a call telling me I qualified for a free energy survey and they had someone in my area "today". Smelling a rat, and wanting to know who was behind the cold call so that I could report it to the ICO, I agreed. As I suspected, it was just a sales pitch for double glazing. If I signed up there and then, I would qualify for a substantial grant that would bring the cost of replacement windows down from £14K to just over £7K.

Knowing full well the windows would cost £5K from a local installer, the guy was quickly shown the door. Later that day, I found I had been left a free gift - A non-contact thermometer with a flashy light that changed from red to green to blue depending on settings... Pretty sure he didn't intend to leave it behind, but it was small recompense for wasting my time. Oh, and the interest rates for the credit agreement was worse than I get on a credit card.

Bottom line - There is no grants or (free) funding for windows or any other home improvements. It is a sales trick to make you think you are getting something cheap. Even then, you can find cheaper deals from local, independent installers.

Your local council may offer limited grants and funding for certain home improvements, but the qualifying criteria is very strict - One option to explore if you are elderly or on benefits.
