Smart Meter - One Company to Another
Options
I had a gas and electricity SMETS2 meter installed by Bulb several months ago. I have tried twice to switch suppliers and beforehand enquired of each of them whether my SMETS2 meter would work with them. The latest one (today) was with Igloo (due to MSE email and potential savings).
Igloo's reply (which is roughly the same as when I looked to move to a different supplier a few weeks ago) was...
Thank you for getting in touch.
We are able to read 95% of SMETS2 electric meters, however, it is unlikely that we would be able to read the gas meter (if you have one). This is an industry-wide issue which we are trying to resolve.
If we were unable to read your meters we would require meter readings to ensure you are billed accurately.
I hope this helps.
I haven't seen anything about this issue anywhere (though I could well have missed it). Does anyone know what is going on?

I was actually logging on to make a similar point.
I keep hearing the radio ad for smart meters, quoting the number of users who have them and thanking them.
The problem is, currently I am on my third electricity provider since I had the smart meter installed. Neither of the companies I have been with since the installers have been able to read the meter.
The irony is, if we follow MSE's advice and switch regularly we are all likely to end up with unused smart meters!!0
