If I went into somewhere like Cash Converters looking for a digital camera that was as good as a camera on a top of the range smartphone, how much should I be able to get it for?
Why I ask is that the smartphone I have at the moment (Samsung A40) I reallly like (great amoled screen), but the camera sucks, but don't want to spend cash on a iphone/galaxy S10 etc.

Purely from an optical view pointalmost any decent standalone camera will be as good if not better than a phone camera.

Normally with smartphone prices the camera is usually the first to be sacrificed in terms of quality, so its pefectly possible to get a phone that sings, dances, does the dishes, yet take crap quality photographs.
If your aim was to get your photos onto the various stock photography websites (like Shutterstock or Alamy for example) you will most certainly find that they will not accept photographs taken on smart phones. Alamy state as much on the website.
