Unusual things in the freezer

  • I once had to freeze all my yarn as I had wool motts.... And currently my freezer houses some soap in the - probably vain - hope it might get a bit more solid....

As I share my freezer with my parents who live a few houses away and use it as an overflow when their own is full I often find things that are strange for my taste. As a vegetarian you usually don't freeze a quarter of a goat or 20 kilos of beef....

  • At one point long ago, there was a sadly-deceased guinea pig in ours... to explain, our neighbours had gone away for a couple of weeks & left us looking after their guineas. One of them was very thin & had some congenital heart problem; they did warn us that it could drop dead at any moment, and that they wouldn't blame us one tiny little bit, it would just be one of those things. Needless to say, it was the other brother that was upside down in the cage one morning...

Seems both of them had heart problems; the first one followed his brother a couple of weeks later, but the neighbours were safely home by then. I'd popped the deceased pet into the freezer; it was in the early days of mobiles, and the signal was so bad I really wasn't sure whether I'd managed to tell them which one of the boys had died, so they could prepare their kids.

Clearly no long-lasting emotional damage was done; they're still keeping guinea pigs to this day.

  • I have a cleaning business and a lady asked me to help her sort the chest freezer out.I put everything on the table and we started to go through it,I picked up a carrier bag and said what’s this she said “oh that’s my dog”
She went on to explain that it had died of old age and she wanted to bury it in the garden but because it was winter and the ground was frozen she couldn’t dig a hole.

My mum had been gifted a huge amount of cooking Apple's, that she had stewed and frozen before going on holiday, she said help yourself. My mum froze everything in plastic tubs and always knew what was what, so never labled anything. As I was passing I collected a couple of tubs, left them to defrost ans made a crumble topping. Once the Apple was defrosted it smelled funny - turns out it was thick leek and potato soup, thankfully I realised before making a crumble. My pudding ended up as a starter!!
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"
