O/S Daily Wednesday 27th November 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, damp and lots of laying water, raining and forecast for all day, but quite mild.
DH gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and veg. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost last night, so we'll be having roasted chicken with LO veg and any extras needed I'll prep when I get home.
Yesterday was slow to start with then was manic for a while - seems to be all or nothing at the moment! Today is my last working day this week, although I'm working on Saturday.
I've just realised it's December next week, still have stuff to do so I'd better get on with it!
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
RosyRed Nice to see you! I have paperwork days like that, but I don't need questions from other people, I end up questioning and confusing myself :rotfl:
The bagless delivery isn't too bad, now that I've got used to it, lol. But Morrisons have been sending far too many substitutions lately, I don't mind the occasional one – and to be fair they're always decent subs - but it's getting silly now. There's no 'do not sub' tick box on the website anymore, you have to wait for delivery then hand things back to the driver. There are certain things I won't swap when it comes to Christmas treats, so I'm not going to bother ordering them. I'll make a list of musts and go to the shop in the next couple of weeks. I hate shopping so I'm dreading it
ScarletRibbons The crem service is tomorrow - we weren't sure when this was going to happen because of timings with the post mortem, so a celebration service at his church was organised for 7th dec. The PM was done quickly so the cremation is just for close family.
The last few funerals I've been to have been quite traditional (apart from one a few weeks ago) so I worried about getting this one right – too much humour maybe? Don't know why I'm worried, it's not for my dad, I haven't arranged it and the family all think it's great! Thanks for the funeral stories, they made me laugh and I've started wondering what my funeral should be like
I'm in the Strange Shape Club too! I used to buy men's jeans til I found bootcut in M&S and I always buy those now. Mine need replacing so I had a look at their website and can't find the same ones. I'll pop into the shop at some point, I'll be livid and forever jeans-less if they've stopped selling them, lol.
The shopping is coming just before lunch, I'll go for a walk and do a quick tidy downstairs before it arrives. No-one's really talked about Christmas so I have no idea what they'd like. I suppose people aren't in the mood at the moment (neither am I tbh), I'll probably get last minute requests then it'll be a big rush

Morning All
Still damp and dreary out and so dark, didn't seem to get light at all yesterday.
White wash on the rack, my swimming towels seem to be going like cardboard so may have to put them in the TD for 10 mins later. It's a bit like drying yourself on shredded wheat!
I went after work to swap one of the presents I bought, it's a neck warmer for DS2, I bought a junior size! Swapped quickly and then home to do some wrapping. Also sewed some buttons on the baby cardi - there are no button holes so for decoration only!
DS1 staying tonight as he will be late at work and it's over an hour for him to get home, we may have risotto for tea which is nice and easy.
Hope the poorlies are recovering well, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Raining here and has been most of the night before we left work yesterday the site was already flooded so goodness knows what it will be like today! its meant to rain all day today as well.
Off to work today we are making mince pies and mini christmas cakes atm, we need to try and decorate the cakes today and icing is not really my forte !
Dinner tonight will be the filled pasta with salad and garlic bread for OH I have a few salad bits that need using up so it will be good to use them.
Will do a wash tonight but still no TD so it will have to go on the airer.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another drab start here with a half'n'half chance of rain. Yesterday was miserable and hardly daylight all day.
Yesterday I took stock of my Xmas wrapping stuff. I have enough rolls of paper to wallpaper a large room and enough tags to keep Santa going another decade, but not a great deal of bags and, as it's easier to stuff things in bags rather than wrap them, I need more of those.
With that in mind I am getting the bus up the valley bottom this morning to the cheapest supplier of Xmas bags I know of hereabouts. Plus a visit into the Home B's there to stock up on their 8 hour t-lights. I go through them like nobody's business in this dark and gloomy weather.
Two of the DGDs will be here for sleepover. They will be arriving after dancing so will already have had an early tea at home but will want supper. It's usually toasted sandwiches or pizza so that's easily solved.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad and absent friends. May the convalescents continue to steadily improve. I hope Steve's op went well DUMPLING. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I apologise for not posting more regularly, life keeps getting in the way.
I do have some exciting news, we have a new grandchild joining the family after Christmas a little boy, eight years old who's adoption has broken down. I'm so looking forward to meeting him.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
Yesterday wasn't dull after all. The cleaner did her stuff and then a friend of DM's came to visit. She stayed for four hours, talking all the time.
I managed to hang the washing, I'm more balanced now!
Last night I fell asleep pretty quickly though woke at about 3am. I lay there, eyes closed, for about two hours. Again, not restless or worried, just awake.
Today is exciting - I'm going out. :j Only back to the hospital for my first bout of physio and then probably a little bit of shopping / coffee_chat with my friend. :j
Congrats HH on the new addition to the family. It's very heartening to hear this news.
Two weeks done, only four more! It's incredible the difference since before the op.
Right, I've got exercises to do. Thoughts are with the poorlies. Happy Wednesday to everyone.0 -
Morning all. Grey and drizzly here for a change
Not much going on here today. I need to do some washing and bits and bobs of housework. DD texted me yesterday to say that Dgs had ģained his first trampolining award which will be ptesented at next week's class. He is so proud!
It will be good to get out Gers. Enjoy your coffee and chat. HH congrats on the new grandchild. RR good luck with the cakes. TA enjoy your shopping trip.
Well have a good day folks. Hugs and spoons all round.

DGC here later, we didnt have a birthday cake at the weekend for DGS so I've made a big crispie cake one to stick his candles in tonight, he doesn't really like normal cake anyway :rotfl:
I did one job off my list yesterday- clearing a big cupboard, and finding more offerings for the CS
Tru- I'm easily confused by figures these days too, my brain goes foggyThere do seem lots of things out of stock atm but my friend says it's like that instore too.Mine is arriving later.
I was sad and shocked to see Gary Rhodes has passed away at the age of 59RIP
Right better go and hide my latest batch of pressies, haven't time to wrap them today.
Hugs to all in need and have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Hello all
Just got back from Dad's, he was very amiable today. I went to change his bed, hoover/dust the bedroom and clean through downstairs. Unfortunately I fell at the first fence. I stripped his bed, then he decided to swap his electric blanket for my late DM's. Ok no problem....... or so I thought ! Two beds were now stripped, an electric blanket that wouldn't reach the plug socket, an extension with no plug and a bed minus a castor. So I cleaned DM's bedroom, called on Mr Fix It to lift the bed while I put the castor back on and he also put a plug on the extension. I remade her bed and then I started on Dad's bedroom. Meanwhile he's up a ladder cleaning windows . I managed to clean the bathroom and wipe the kitchen tops down and clean his sink then I ran out of steam. I have told him he has to get a cleaner, as he won't/can't do it and now I'm struggling too. Luckily I bumped into his neighbour who knows of someone, or else it will be social services.
He may come over for his tea, he's undecided . Anyway it will be lasagne, chips and peas.
Apologies to all as I feel like I'm moaning about him in every post lately
Sending healing vibes to the poorly ones and those recuperating. Hugs to all
Take care all

Good afternoon everyone :hello:
I'm late coming on here today as it has been a bit busy in my house. My grandson came over for an hour or so before school started and then my sister and my mum came to see me at lunch time. I have also managed to fit in a very satisfying nana nap so I feel great.
Steve's cataract op went really well yesterday. He was all done and dusted by 3pm and today he has removed the dressing and said he can see a big difference already. I am very relieved and happy for him.
We have just discussed our plans for our 20th wedding anniversary on Sunday. We were going to go out but as Steve can't drive at the moment we have decided on a lovely home cooked steak dinner. I don't mind, I am happy to wait until Steve feels better to go out....after all it has been a year and a half I have been home (and I am not counting the hospital stay) so what is a few more weeks:).
Hester, what lovely news about a new grandson. Eight is such a lovely age too. My sister works as a foster mum and she has adopted 2 of her children so we have 2 beautiful new nieces in our family.
nanny, please don't feel you have to apologise for talking about your dad. This is a good place to let off steam when you need to. My dad was an awkward old beggar to be honest but I loved him and miss him. I sympathise with you and hope he finds a cleaner soon xx
Rosyred, your grandson's cake sounds lovely, what a great idea for someone who doesn't like ordinary cake. I too was shocked to read about Gary Rhodes, 59 is no age is it xx
Gers, hope the physio went well. I know what you mean about having to sleep on your back. I am only now trying to sleep on my side after 6 weeks and that feels very weird too I can tell you. Hope your recovery continues to be smooth xx
Right, I am off to attempt to make a beef stroganoff for dinner tonight. It's a low calorie version so I hope it tastes nice. I also bought myself some smaller dinner plates to stop my portion sizes creeping up. Steve, bless him, likes to fill my plate up to the brim and me being a greedy mare will eat all the food and then complain about feeling too full :rotfl:. Hopefully these plates will help.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0
