Mattress for a heavy person.

Had a look on the internet for a mattress for a person who weighs the wrong side of 25 stones. He used to have a good quality mattress for over 16 years. After hearing about how one should change after X number of years he bought one from Argos. A well known brand. After 3 years his area is worn out, especially where he sits at the edge. He knows that the manufacturers say try not to sit on edge etc.
What type of mattress should he go for? From my findings foam would be best bet. He wants firm mattress. He is worried that his partner might find it hard.
Anyone have any experience on foam mattresses or which mattress to buy? Did suggest to him when he goes to a physio etc try to find out where the hospital bed mattress are from.
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest going initially to one of the specialist bed and mattress suppliers such as Dreams or Bensons. They should have experience in this area and will be able to advise on the best type for him. There is no obligation to purchase from them although it might be worth doing so, because if the mattress doesn't live up to expectation he will have a local contact for resolution.

I would not describe Dreams or Bensons as specialists just because they sell beds.
Try high quality independents and expect to pay 1k plus. Could have zip link singles at different firmness levels.

All I can say is that when we went to Bensons the person we spoke seemed to be extremely knowledgable on the various types of mattress but not in the least pushy.

Perhaps google Bariatric Mattress? I think you need a specialist retailer. Not just a bed specialist.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
