Public Domain Name Servers (DNS)

Hi
Previously people have recommended that I change to a different DNServer because my ISP's was probably overworked and clapped out.
With broadband it didn't seem worth bothering, but now with mobile I've tried it out.
There's a website here with some info...
https://www.dnsleaktest.com
Here it is with my network's servers

And with Google Public DNS

And with Cloudflare

There's another website that compares performance of Public DNServers.
Here... https://www.dnsperf.com/#!dns-resolvers
It shows consistently best results for Cloudflare, so that's the one I'm going to use.
I suppose that EE and O2 and Voda have their own DNServers too.
Maybe somebody out there can try them with the dnsleaktest website.
Also I expect that the Virtual mobile operators don't have any DNServers of their own, but I could be wrong.
I don't know whether the four networks' DNServers are any good or not - maybe changing DNServers is all a waste of time.:)
Another reason for using Public DNServers is that some of them allow for DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) to be used with a suitable browser such as Chrome or Firefox (and maybe others).

All providers have DNS servers, otherwise nobody would be able to go anywhere fast.
Mobile internet works in slightly different way to normal broadband for purposes of getting online (since its all wireless) but once you're on and connected to the provider it goes through everything else in exactly the same way.
Note that all public DNS services will fluctuate and at any one time on the internet one will outrank the others due to traffic, congestion, routing or similar. You may do better rather than chopping and changing just to pick one and stick with it. You can set one in your router and then any device that connects to that router will use those DNS settings.0 -

I haven't got a router.:(
But if I was to connect my phone through your router I would have to use the DNS that you had chosen.:D
When I was using my phone with the town library public wi-fi dnsleaktest showed that they were using Cloudflare DNS.
And on the bus coming home dnsleaktest showed that the public wi-fi was using Google DNS.:cool:Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

Also if you install a vpn client on your phone, that probably will change the dns0
