I think the economy depends on the length of the pipe runs. Too often on a combi you have to 'run off' a lot of water before hot water arrives at the tap. That is why many combi boilers have a small internal HW tank.0 -
I have one of each and prefer the conventional boiler. Possibly because I'm used to it. We had a new boiler installed 4 years ago and with two mixer valve showers we were recommended to replace like for like with a conventional boiler. It has been fine, and with a hive is very controllable. We use the airing cupboard to store towels / bedding etc, so get some use from the space occupied by the tank.
I then bought another house with a 7 year old combi. It seemed to have an issue with providing hot water, so we had to replace the diverter valve. It's an old house and I think the pipe runs may not be direct. Getting hot water still takes a while, particularly if the heating isn't on and the boiler has to fire up specifically.0
