Honeywell CM927/BDR91 connection lost

I have Honeywell CM927/BDR91 pair to control my boiler. It has been working well for a couple of years. But recently I found that CM927 sometimes fails to turn on/off the boiler. When I checks the BDR91 (in airing cupboard with hot water tank) when this happens, it is showing a steady red light. This, based on manual, means a lost RF communication for at least one hour. If I move CM927 to the nearby of BDR91, the red light will go and connection re-established.

I think there might be two possibility to have caused this:
1) CM927's signal is getting weaker over the time (I installed a new set of Duracell but still got the same problem so battery is not the issue); or
2) New interference introduced. I did not have many new things installed recently, only a wifi extender and a Google mini.

Anyone got any experience as to the possible cause of the problem? Is the CM927 or BDR91 on its last leg? Thanks.
