Hello,
Looking for advice. I found out someone has taken out a loan in my name. I am shocked they had my full name, address and DOB. I do not know what other details they had.
This was with a payday lender 'Satsuma'.
I have contacted action fraud, experian credit agency and informed satsuma who were not helpful.
Is there anything else I should do?
Is there anyway of preventing this from happening?
thanks in advance.

In terms of future prevention, CIFAS provides a protective registration service that makes it harder for anyone (including you!) to open any credit products in your name by enforcing additional application checks:

Unfortunately there is little you can do to prevent this ongoing activity. It seems your personal data is out there somewhere and you 'cannot put the genie back into the bottle'
What is unclear at this time is who has access to your personal details to obtain loans by fraudulent means.
It may be that your details are freeley available to all, or are being sold or otherwsie made available to those wiling to be involved in criminal activity.
Or it may simply be someone who knows you that has access to such information.
The best you can do at present is to keep a careful watch on any credit applications made, and alert any fraudlunet ativity to the relevant authorities (including, of course, the creditor) as soon as you becaome aware.
Hopefully, those involved in the criminality will soon be apprehended.
Take care0 -

How did you find this out?
I am shocked they had my full name, address and DOB
Not really all that difficult to obtain. But not in itself sufficient to take out a loan.0 -

I received a letter from Satsuma (payday lender), in the post indicating I had missed payments from a loan.0 -

Lots of people post there name, there address, there birthday, and there mobile number on social media, that’s all a scammer needs to commit identity fraud, then they wonder how they were scammed......I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Not really, no.
It's nowhere near that easy. It's certainly possible though, with very lax security from the lender.0 -

You might wish to submit a subject access request to find out exactly what data they hold about you, as explained at https://www.satsumaloans.co.uk/privacy0 -
Put a protective CIFAS on as suggested above.
I know exactly how it feels. We had fraud against us by people we thought of as ‘friends’ who obviously had access to personal details and access to our home and mail. We only became aware when a letter asking which account the loan charged against our home should be paid into! Something to consider but unlikely I know.
It’s worth checking your P.C / phones & tablets for malware also.
Hope you have nipped it in the bud, it’s a terrible thing to go through.0
