Fly tipping help please

Not sure if this is the correct board but here goes. My MiL lives in a terraced house with back entry ( here up north, we call it “ the backs”). People park their cars here as there are yellow lines at the front. A number of houses on the terrace are privately owned and rented out. Most residents are good neighbours. However there are a couple of residents who for some reason persistently leave rubbish outside the back of the houses. This can consist of sofas, mattresses, gas bottles, household waste, furniture. It amazes me where all these items come from, surely they cant be obtaining new beds/ sofas etc every few weeks in order to throw the old stuff out. This stuff blocks the footpath meaning you cant walk on the path. My MiL uses a mobility aid and has to walk in the road to avoid it. We have reported it to Fix my street, and the local council, who eventually move it, but then it just happens all over again. We dont know who to go to now who can sort the problem permanently. Any advice?

  • Not much can be done except to keep reporting it as soon as it happens each time. The council will decide if and when to take action. You could go to your local councillor with your complaint who would further push the council to act.

Report it to the council. They are basically the only people able to take action.

If it's persistent, ask if temporary cameras can be installed to watch activity in the passage. Councils do use them to try to identify persistent fly tipping.
