How to deal with estate agents before you sign the contract

I follow this guy on You Tube but this video is relevant to anything in life where you are expected to sign a contract that primarily is not for your benefit, eg estate agent contracts.

Wise words worth listening to and applying before you sign that 3% plus VAT, 26 week, sole selling rights contract.

Hmmmm.... he takes a long time to get to the point. In fact I gave up before he got there!

"Not for your benefit?" Well in that case don't sign and don't use an estate agent! But seriously, it IS for your benefit (you want to sell your property), but the terms of the contract must meet your needs.

    Pretty common sense really:
    * read it. All of it. Before signing
    * satisfy yourself you understand it
    * satisfy yourself it meets your needs
    * make sure you're happy with the fees
    * make sure you're happy with the contract period
    * make sure you're happy with the point payment kicks in
    * make sure you're happy with the conditions (eg if there's a free EPC, is it still free if you cancel the contract?)
** if there's anything you're not happy with, change it or go elswhere **

    Simple.
