Vision express direct debit cancellation

Options
Hi all,

Just got off the line with vision express after deciding I'd like to pause my contact lense direct debit. Was told that it had already entered Bacs so am unable to cancel, but the payment is due to leave my account on the 2nd December (it is the 25th November today). Now I know that Bacs takes 3 days, so am I right in saying they should be able to cancel? And if they won't am I ok to cancel the direct debit on my end?

Thanks everyone

DD's are often started 5 working days before they actually take the funds. Once it is started it can't be stopped.

Will they not let you return to store and refund?

Is it a credit agreement or just a subscription?

If the latter, cancel your DD and call your bank to ensure that no funds will be taken. Might need to set it back up again with VE but it sounds like you're more bothered at the money aspect and its your decision anyway. I've cancelled DD's before they were taken where the amount varied and also after they were taken (before I cancelled via online account, after I cancelled via bank on the phone).

If the former, missing an agreed payment can impact your credit history. Again you could still cancel it, but I would strongly recommend not doing so.

Not prejudicing any contract in place (in which case you may well still be liable), note the following under "day 1, 2, 3" in the link below
    https://www.bacs.co.uk/Services/bacsschemes/gettingstarted/Pages/DirectDebit.aspx
(incidentally, there are also day 4-7's where response messages are provided, eg. if payment was unsuccessful)

I used to work in this area, and it's still my understanding (someone correct me?) that if the direct debit is cancelled before your bank does the mandate check (day 2), then it will not be processed.
