Minimum Income Floor

Hi,

I hope someone can give me some insight into this problem.

I am self-employed and applied for Universal Credit with the Minimum Income Floor. I have been self-employed for longer than 12 months and had my meeting last Thursday. I was told everything was fine and had to input my income figures for the dates October 24th - November 23rd which I did, when requested, on the 23rd.

Due to losing a couple of contracts, my income for the money was just over £150, which I added when requested. I then had a screen stating my statement would be available on 26th and I would be paid on the 30th.

Anyway, I logged into my account today and there was a statement that my account had been closed due to me earning too much?? It said I was no longer entitled to anything?

The minimum income floor was set at £1144.15 a month and I was substantially lower than that, so how can I have been told I am not able to claim anything? I even called them and they had no idea why and the best they could do was to set me up with a new claim with an appointment a full 7 days away.

Any ideas or feedback on what could have happened would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What is your maximum UC entitlement (if you had no income and the MIF was not applied)?
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • It would work out at approximately £315 a month.

At a guess I suspect it was because with 'earnings' of £1144.15 you aren't eligible for any UC. The minimum income floor just means that instead of taking account of the £150 you actually earned they treat you as receiving 1144.15.

If your maximum entitlement is just the single person allowance of £317.82 (no children or rent) then, as icequeen says, there is no UC payable due to the MIF. Earnings of £1144.15 mean that a deduction of £720.81is made from the maximum amount.

I think you may have misunderstood what the MIF is. The way that the MIF works is that if you earn less than the MIF you are treated as earning the MIF. If you earn more then your actual income is used,
