Dry Cleaning Help!

  • Look at the care instructions and see what they say. If you think the cleaner acted negligently, send a letter before action setting out what you want (a refund) by when (14 days) and what the consequences are if they don't agree. Then take them to small claims court, but you will need to supply enough evidence to suggest they were negligent.
  • Sounds like a plan.

Thank you so much for your advice, it’s really appreciated!

Of course there is always the possibility that the cleaner did nothing wrong and that the fault was due to the manufacturer putting incorrect labelling on the dress.

Exactly, the OP seems to ignore the fact this could be a possibility and focusing all their efforts into punishing the original cleaner without evidence.

Precisely. Maybe the material was such that whoever dry-cleaned it, however carefully, it would have discoloured.

Indeed, and that's the next step if the cleaner has cleaned it in accordance with the care label.

Isn't a wedding dress just a cherished memory of the big day, to be put in a box and looked at once every 10 years?

Dry cleaning delicate fabrics is a risk, they usually have a disclaimer about the risks.

The care instructions on the dress would normally state if it's able to be dry cleaned, if so then the dry cleaner isn't liable, and if not then shouldn't the customer find out first?
