Temporary energy suppliers?

Does anyone have any idea how I'd go about getting some temporary energy suppliers, while my property is unoccupied by tenants? I'm expecting refurb work to take less than 2 months and don't want to get locked into a long 12/18/24 month contract. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The day the tenants move out take readings and ring the existing supplier. You are then free to switch - select a supplier that doesn't charge exit fees. No issues then with 12/24 month contracts.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

You can stay with the existing suppliers but on a variable tariff..once you have finished the refurb then your new tenants can pick their own supplier.0

You don't need to do anything, other than making sure that the current supplier knows who you are and has the correct meter readings when the tenant moves out.
You will be put onto a "deemed" tariff. There is no minimum contract or exit fee. At that point, you can switch to a better tariff with the same supplier (avoiding one with an exit fee), or switch suppliers if you wish.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Hi there everyone. Thanks for the information. Meter readings and photos were taken by both myself and the leaving tenant. I'm in the process of trying to contact the gas/electricity suppliers. Couldn't get past EON automated phone wall yesterday.BunglesMate0

Hello Bunglesmate and I'm sorry you had difficulties when you phoned.
This type of change is looked after by our Home Moves team. There's a form on our website you can use to give us all the information. This goes directly to this team. They'll use the details given to close the account for the tenant moving out and open a new one for you to cover usage and standing charges going forward.
If you do need to talk to us, you might find it better to use the Live Chat service on our website. Home Move advisors are online from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 6pm Saturdays.
As Ectophile says, unless you tell us differently, we'll put you on our standard deemed tariff, Energy Plan. There are no restrictions with this tariff leaving you free to change tariff/supplier whenever you wish.
We do sometimes have cheaper tariffs available without exit fees. Also, exit fees don't apply to a change of tenancy or home move. They only kick in when changing supplier outside the tariff renewal window. You can see these tariffs on our website. I'd also pop your details on to the Price Comparison sites. These will show your options both with us and with the other suppliers.
If you repeat the Home Moves request once a new tenant moves in, we'll close your account and open a new one for those taking over. The tariff you choose to cover usage during the refurb period will end at this point leaving the new tenant free to go for their own tariff/supplier.
Sorry again for the phone issues Bunglesmate and hope this points you in the right direction. Please let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.
