Metal Detectors, Any advice ?

I try to buy my 3 nieces and nephew a present that is interactive and that they can all have one of. Ages range from 8-12.
As 2 of them live by the sea and the other 2 stay for holidays I thought of buying them metal detectors this year.
However, the cheap ones are rubbish according to reviews.
So I am looking for advice on a good brand but with a good starter model.
BTW....I know nothing about them.
Would appreciate any help or advice.

You can't just metal detect without a landowner's permission, so you need to find out about the locality and if they'd be able to use it.0

The OP mentioned that their nieces and nephew live by the sea. There are different laws governing using detectors on foreshores. Permission is not always required if detecting between mean high water level and mean low water level:
