new kitten to keep cat company?

Our older cat doesn't really do pile ons where you have a furry mass, never has not even with her late sister. A cuddle with a cat to her is touching and next to, never on. Problem is the other 2 love the former.
She has mellowed and allows them to sleep next to her but having said that all three were found asleep in the sun in seperate rooms in seperate cat beds yesterday, all very happy.May you find your sister soon Helli.

It's the younger female that scoffs her food and then cleans up whatever he's left.
She dominates the roost.
They are wonderful company .
Ditto! We introduced a 16 week old female to our pretty mellow 2 year old boy, and now that feisty female dominates the roost. I think she lets him think he's in charge but actually she is (hmmm sounds familiar!!!:rotfl: )
They also play a game of tag up and down stairs and hallways but we can't figure out the rules either. Seems to descend into a full on fur flying wrestling match on the carpet or Mr Cool disappearing into his wardrobe for some quiet time.
I'll be honest, we were very worried about introducing and tried to find a slightly older female kitten that was confident and outgoing as our current boy was very confident although laid back. The match worked a treat and they really wouldn't be without each other now. We introduced over the space of a week behind closed doors letting them smell and hear each other and see each other behind a glass door. A fair few fur raising hisses, slaps on the door and snarls from him (she couldn't have given a toss and was more interested in my laces) and we dreaded physically introducing them face to face. Fortunately she was more interested in playing the whole time than battling for dominance so she let him do his thing and now they're best of friends...and the tables have turned. She has him totally under her furry paw.
Just take it slow and easy and be prepared for some flying fur, hisses and slaps but they should figure things out themselves. Try not to separate them if they do start fighting, only if it gets really nasty and take time to match the personalities of the cat. I was advised introducing a younger female to a resident male cat with similar personalities was the best match. My sister has had a nightmare with two adult males.0 -
When I had to PTS one of my cats at the age of only 1 (heart condition) and was left with 3, all adult boys.... few month later brought a "free to good home" another adult boy and frankly apart from keeping back door shut for a week (but taking him to the garden by carrying him) - I di dnot separate them at all.
Yes there was a bit of hissing (my lot not the new cat) but then they have those "moment" among themselves despite living together for 9 years.
It did help that the new boy hasn't got any aggression in him...
But you are right, young kitten would be best - good luck0 -
We ended up with a rescue little kitten when our two other cats were about 2. We kept her in one bedroom for the first week with me working in there with her as I work from home and at night for her own safety in case my adult cats did hurt her. They could smell and hear her through the door and seemed alarmed at first but then curious. After a week we brought her to the lounge to try and introduce her to the others. Our adult male was scared and ran off, our adult female hissed but didn’t hurt her. Within a few hours our older male was rolling around playing with her and they started sleeping together. The older female took about a month to stop hissing and by that point they weren’t close but tolerated each other. Getting an opposite sex kitten definitely seems the best option. Feliway diffusers help as well. They say cats are solitary animals and prefer not to have companions but I think it depends on the cat, quite often our three sleep on the bed together when they have the whole house to choose from so seem to appreciate one another’s presence.0
