O/S Daily Monday 25th November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still very dark and damp. Rain forecast today again.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.DS2 settled and ok.

Lunch yesterday was beef, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, swede, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy - was lovely and I didn't manage to ruin the beef! Some LO's so will use them as part of a meal in the coming days.

Yesterday we visited my parents and my bro and SIL were on an overnight visit, so had a catch up with them. We then had a very chilled afternoon after we'd had lunch.

Back to work today, and we'll see what this week brings.

Keep safe and well x

    Thanks for the start nmlc.

Damp and miserable out this morning as it has been most of the weekend.

DD and baby Sophie came for the afternoon yesterday, didn't do very much but it was good to see them. Sophie was a little out of sorts and very snuffly but still smiled a lot.

I've finished the baby cardigan, just need to sew it up - it's only taken me 3 months!

Hope you all have a happy Monday, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A damp but mild day is forecast for us. At least it saves the cost of putting the heating on!

I need to go in town to collect my meds from B**ts this morning. I must not be tempted by any more stocking fillers as I pass through, the family have all got more than enough already! I still have the main presents to buy but am totally lacking inspiration!

As it was a mild morning yesterday I decided to defrost the big freezer in the garage and take stock of what's out there. Then I got totally carried away and decided to defrost the smaller freezer too! The garage floor was awash with water by the time I had finished and I was exhausted from lugging baskets/boxes of frozen food up into the kitchen to sort out.

I still have the sore throat/cough/peffing lurgy annoying me but the cough doesn't sound as bad as some of you have had, (Hope I am not speaking too soon!)

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad and convalescents. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Quite chilly here this morning and we are due rain for most of the day I think, off to work for me and on the Christmas countdown now only four weeks before we finish for Xmas.

I sat and wrapped a load of presents yesterday afternoon I have done all the birthday ones and a few xmas ones so will do a few more next Sunday it doesn't seem too bad if you do it in small chunks !!

Got roast pork tonight, I did double yesterday so a nice easy dinner just need to heat it through when I get in.

Our TD is leaking water badly so we are unable to use it atm we were a bit lost without it yesterday as it was raining but we managed with lighting the log burner and putting the airer in front of it, but I didn't do the bedding as trying to get that dry would be a nightmare so will leave that till next weekend, there is a chap coming out Friday to look at it, its not a year old yet !!

Right better get on and see what this week brings !

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

The family decided to have a celebration service for FIL, because of the post mortem we weren't sure when we could arrange a funeral. So the service is arranged for the 7th december. We were really hoping to have the cremation before this, it seems odd to have it after. The PM was done last week, cause of death was inconclusive but they've given us an interim death certificate and we can go ahead with the cremation. We'd already spoken with the funeral director who in turn had spoken with the crematorium and they'd given us 10.30 on thursday morning, they said these situations are quite common and usually happen quickly so we should be OK. We (I keep saying we, I made sure I stayed away from decision-making conversations – I actually mean they, the three brothers!) have decided on a very small service, just immediate family and FIL's oldest friends that he considered to be family, then we'll all go for a meal somewhere – venue (probably a pub!) hasn't been chosen yet.
I did have a slight influence on the not-needed, but would be funny to do, order of service for the crem. I don't want to keeping banging about things so I'll leave that for tomorrow's post :D

It's raining again so another day indoors. I'm itching to do things in the garden so I'm getting a bit irritated, lol. I have a load of washing to do and there's a little pile of work that'll keep me busy for a couple of hours. Not sure what to do after that. I'm struggling to fill my days at the moment – sounds lovely and it is for about a week, lol – but then it gets boring very quickly. It's probably because we're at that inbetween stage with FIL, I'm sure my days will get back to their normal routine in a week or two.

    Good morning everyone.

Last night I slept much better, only awake for a brief comfort break and off to sleep again soon after. Yesterday was a very quiet day as I was tired.

Today I'll be going up and down one flight of the close stairs. As I could do them when in pain I want to do them now, I'm on a mission to build up my fitness levels.

Thoughts are with our missing or struggling. Happy Monday to all.
  • Good or in, quite mild here but these dismal rain-sodden days are so disheartening. I too am itching to do things outside.

I worked on Saturday, got very wet on the way back and have some emails to do today. Plus the everlasting washing and some ironing.

I have been sleeping quite well but had a very strange, patchy sleep last night and am tired now.I think the low light levels are starting to affect my mood. But only a few weeks until the shortest day!

Hope everyone has a good day.

It seems to be taking forever to get over this bug properly, we're both still coughing and feeling tired. Hopefully we'll both feel better this week.

We've got nothing on today but have tickets to a book event tomorrow evening. It's David Mitchell talking about his new book so we're both looking forward to that. It's in Ely so we'll call in at Chris' and pick up their cat because we're having her while they go to the Christmas markets in Vienna. We went over for a couple of hours yesterday so that Steve could help Chris with a couple of jobs.

Morning all from a very soggy but mild mehefinland
Well new mare had her stiches out on Friday but is still badly bruised internally/ Had to sedate her to remove the staples on her leg wound as she was getting very tetchy by then... cant say I blame her. Vet is pleased with progress so that's a good thing. Having to keep her separated from Scooby until we can work out how to manage the situation. They are starting to 'shout' at each other so that's a start. Turned her out in the field on her own for the first time and after a bit of whizzing around, and a roll in the muddiest patch she could find she settled down to eat.
Ds came home for the night with the Toxic Troll, lets just say the atmosphere was strained!! Slightly better by the time they left. Mrs M swallowing hard several times.
Sallylab so pleased to see him . Think her tail would have fallen off it it wasn't attached! Isn't it funny how an animal can show so much affection for someone she hasn't seen for months?

Now back to some form of normality for a few weeks.
    Hugs and spoons as always

    Afternoon all
Had an awful day with dad yesterday, from the off he seemed to be spoiling for a fight :(. Gone are the days of me tip toeing around him, so he got several. Unfortunately he was also getting short shrift in my dreams..... or rather nightmares too, when he had men empty my house ( furniture, carpets and even wallpaper because he was "sorting it out" and it was only costing him £2,000...... "bargain" he said  ) I woke myself up after telling him to sling his hook !
This morning Mr Fix It booked the car in for it's MOT, then I collected my script and we went on into town. Yeah ! I've started some Xmas shopping ( sorry TA ) only some bits and bobs though. I had to order 2 books from A*azon when we got back as they were unavailable in town. Well Smi*hs had one of them, but it was twice as expensive
This afternoon it's emptying the DW and refilling it, then it will be TV watching ...... well I must pace myself :rotfl:.
Tru I hope everything falls into place for you, DH and his brothers.
AOD my DD bought me a SAD light box, perhaps one of those might help ?
RedRuby You are super organised :T I daren't wrap anything as I would never remember what's what. Making a list wouldn't help either as I'd probably lose that too or wrap it in a present :rotfl:
Gers hope you manage to get up/down those stairs.
Camelot hope you and little Sophie feel better soon.
Take care all. Hugs to the poorly or worried.
    nan xx
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
  • I got back from town with yet more gifts at lunchtime and thought to myself, I really must make a start on wrapping or bagging this afternoon. I slid open the wardrobe, looked at all the bags and boxes piled up on the floor and on the shelves. (Not to mention the overflow of bags on the bedroom floor) and had a panic attack!! I was overfaced before the job started. I have made a promise to myself that, with the help of a bottle of Baileys beside me, I will definitely get stuck in at the weekend! (and I might even have bought those elusive last few main pressies by then!)

And don't remind me that there are still the cards to write. Bah humbug! Maybe Tru's carols will instill a bit of Christmas spirit in me

    Take care all xx
