Although last night i was good(ish), nothing easy to cook so i got off my butt and went to the CO-OP and brought 2 pizzas for £1.39 each as reduced so saved £15 which a dominos would have cost.

Have you ever tried making your own? I buy the bases and use a tin of chopped toms, use anything we have in the house thats scrummy and put on loads of cheese. So much more nicer than pizza hut and dominos but still not great for the hips. HTHs.

No i don't make my own, is something i should get into but i am not a big fan of cooking, just like stuff that i can put in oven and have ready soon.

Hence the reason i end up getting too many takeaways, was quite proud of myself last night for not giving in though.

Ok - have decided that (seeing as its xmas) we're around 1 meal out as a couple, 1 with friends and 2 as a family? i know to some it probably still seems excessive but to me its cutting down and its hopefully achievable so i wont just go 'stuff it - i've failed anyway.'

oh - and 1 takeaway for oh (dont like them much anyway!)

    fingers crossed!!

Good luck Roxie, I would rather have the one "posh" meal to 2 or 3 frankie and bennys though - IMO they are mainly just stuff you can make at home easily anyway but they charge much more money.

    Hi Roxie,
As has been said, not a good time of the year to start cutting down!

OH (pops) & have ended up spending more on one meal than 3 nights in a hotel
I know keep doing sums about going out meal compared to take away compared to redy meal compared to making it ourselves then think **** what have I just wasted:confused:

Our worst ones are when we think we'll go out for the 'early bird special' or what ever that is supposed to be cheap and then spend on starters, desserts and drinks and end up paying a fortune,
    yet again!!

We do all need treats now and again, but perhaps the treats could be special meals at home sometimes - you can still dress up!!
My light bulb is still just glimmering about this, but I am working on the theory that being fat is too expensive.... apart from the difficulty in finding cheap clothes ... just think how much body lotion you need:rotfl:

mozette - ummm.. tis simplistic. In theory thats all it would take. In practise thou it just doesn't seem to happen.
The way I see it is that most people have an achilles heel. Some overspend on clothes, tvs, gadgets for the home, the pub, football, music, home stuff, xmas etc etc etc. Whatever it is - its the one that is like an addiction. Mine is without a doubt eating out.
I love the whole process from choosing where to go, deciding what to wear, getting ready right though to coffees and the little posh chocs (not the bill part thou!). Hubbys the same. We love discovering new favourites too. I guess its kind of our hobby - a v expensive one thou!

Pip - LOL!! I hear you. We once took friends out for a thank you meal and it cost us more than our flights to rome and a night in a hotel. scary. very very scary.
i now find that I feel guilty after eating out - sometimes even during, with is kind of ruining it abit for me - good!!
we also have done the early bird specials - the killer is when they put a supplement on the good stuff! thanks for the body lotion gag - it made me giggle!

    Hi Roxie,
I agree about the Achilles' heels.
Are the meals landing you in debt or just making things a bit tight?

Perhaps you don't need to cut them out but just cut back to 2/3 a month and they would remain special.

I have very many stones to loose, but a special meal out must contain all of those extras including the free(?) chocs!!

PS Big girls clothes weigh more than skinny people's so if we loose weight there is less chance of being charged for excess baggage on holiday flights!!

    Hi pip

I've just started a diary explaining all - please feel free to have a look and chip in!!! our debt is student debt and I aiming to save £700 a month towards paying it off - however, all these aperitifs and petit fours are preventing me from doing this.

I am definitely going to cut down. I basically need to stick to a £100 budget for dale and I for the month and £100 for doing things with the kids. I've said we can have 2 meals out as a couple (but they have to be total under the £100) and 2 as a family. Will be cutting this down more after xmas!
