Help with locating my PPI compensation

Hi all,
i'm highly doubtful of being able to resolve this but I thought it might be worth a try seeking advice here so here goes -
Today I went to my previous address to collect mail.
The lady who now lives there told me she recieved a letter for me she accidentally opened (about 6 months ago).
Inside was a cheque for over 2000 pounds (for PPI).
At the time she called the company and they told her to shred the document and they would hold on to the money until claimed by the rightful owner.
The problem is I don't know what company it was!I've checked my emails and can find no correspondence. I remember putting in the claim after a company called me in 2018 but I don't know anything else. I'm thinking my only option is to phone every PPI company in the book.
My partner however says that it wouldn't have been the PPI company who sent the cheque but rather the bank but if that was the case then I would've assumed the PPI company would've been chasing me up for their cut.
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Thanks

It would have come from the lender, not the claims company.0
