Please suggest Posh/fancy areas of Newcastle (Upon Tyne) for cocktails & high end food?

Hi all

Our Daughter is in her first year at University at Newcastle. We’ve not seen her since September but we are going up there next weekend 30th November and we want to go somewhere nice/posh/exclusive etc as a celebration. Please could you guys suggest an area that boasts fancy bars and high end restaurants. Normally I would go mad at such a suggestion but I am under strict orders from she who must be obeyed to not comment/wince etc on the prices. “Don’t you dare spoil our night by sighing, complaining & moaning at the prices” etc. You get the drift guys.., So, I know I can go on Tripadvisor and find the best rated bars. The best rated restaurants etc. However, we don’t want to spend all night in Taxis if they are far apart. Therefore, I’d like to know...is there a particular area/region in Newcastle where we can find such ‘delights’?
For example, in Manchester we have Spinningfields. This area boasts posh bars etc and the odd footballer can be spotted here.
I hope this makes sense guys. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The only No-No is fish restaurants which were not too keen on. Anything else is cool.
Thanks in advance all.

Loads of views and no replies. I used to live NE but it has changed much since. Try trip advisor for restaurants look at quayside area for bars and restaurants close together. Ask your daughter if she has a preference bigg market area best avoided bar wise.

Peace & loaf in jesmond is excellent for a meal and theirs loads of bars round it.
Then if you did want a change Newcastle is less than 5 mins away in a taxi, where you can start at the Gate and work your way round the toon.

I would’ve said Jesmond or Quayside probably but there’s nice places dotted all over town. The Alchemist and the Botanist are nice places to eat and for cocktails, wouldn’t say they’re really mega posh but they’re pricey- had a meal at the Alchemist the other week and OH’s reaction was ‘how much?’ :D
