Credit card application declined

I am first time buyer and recently had mortgage approved, just waiting for it to go through, I then applied for 0% purchase credit card but was declined. I have good credit rating, no outstanding loans, I already have a credit card but it is paid off in full each month and some months not used so not sure why I have been declined this time.

You shouldn't be applying for credit when you've got a mortgage application underway. Wait until you have the keys to your property.

Impossible to say without knowing what's on your credit files. Check them all (ignore the scores and ratings).

But stop applying for anything until you've completed on the mortgage. You run the risk of having it pulled.

Dont worry to much about it, I find every credit institution have different rules when it comes to handing out credit, it's just the way they do business. Bit of advice though dont apply for anything else until your mortgage has gone through and even then only apply if it's something you need as too many applications can damage your report.

The credit card company makes its money from interest on outstanding balances and/or from fees from retailers when the card is used. Low usage and no balance means you're a poor customer.
