Carpet metal divider between carpet and hard floor

I'm having new carpets put down and buying the underlay and divider cover strips. The underlay will be 10 or 12mm depending on room but all rooms come off of the hall which is original wood floorboards.

Can I buy any type of cover strip or does it have to be a specific shaped strip, such as single edge in whatever finish we decide on?

Thanks for any help.

So with the underlay and carpet is there going to be a significant height discrepancy with the floorboards ?

Well carpet with underlay will be between 17-20mm difference (depending on thickness of carpet and underlay) between the halls hardwood flooring and then going into the carpeted rooms.

Since you are joining to a hard wood floor have you considered using wood? Take a look at this web site and different woods, lengths and rebates are available to butt carpets to wood.

Decent carpet shops have a wide range of door plates - we've got exactly what you have - there are special plates that deal with height differences - different ones for whether it's the carpet or the floor that's higher. In our case, we have a tiled floor that's higher than the carpet as the tiles have been put on top of existing tiles, so a "step" of about an inch.

    Thanks for the replies.

Is it something we can do after so we know the exact difference in height between wood and carpet flooring? Or will the carpet fitter insist on putting them down?

The carpet fitter can fit the carpet without having the thresholds. They will fit gripper rod just in front of where the threshold will be fixed and fit the carpet to the gripper rod.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I think you are overthinking this. There’s a bit of flexibility in the strips, and the carpet will compress a bit.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
