HP printer taking a long time to connect

Recently when I send something to my printer it takes a age to connect - it does eventually but only after a very long time.
Why is this?

What OS .
What printer driver .0 -
Switch off your router, any WiFi access points and printer. Switch router on and wait until it's working. Switch printer on. Retest.0
