Boiler isolator switch question

Options
Electrical help please.

Had electric boiler (pulsacoil) serviced today. There are 2 switches on wall which I understand are for off-peak and boost controller. But there is also a third fused switch which, according to the manual, seems to be something called an isolator switch.

Mine has been left at OFF, but neighbour's is switched ON which should it be?

Thanks

Isolator switches control electrical power to the boiler or should I say in this instance your hot water thermal store? If the switch is off it should not be working.

    Is it?

Won't know until tomorrow as works on radio timer from SP. Comes on at various times overnight.
  • Switch could be wired upside down. Is the boiler powered on? Do you have a tank with an immersion?

No indicater light to show if boiler is on or not. Will only know when I hear the noise of it boiling during night. No separate immersion heater and tank.

It would not have a separate tank with an emersion, as its not a boiler, as most people define them.

But as you say switch front could be upside down

Well I left the switched at OFF. Boiler heated up as usual, so no idea what this switch is actually for. Will just ignore it.

Switch front is not upside down as it has the word FUSED on it correctly.

Thanks for all the efforts to help.
  • A photo might help. Do you have an electronic scale inhibitor on the mains-in pipe?

Switch front may be on right way up...not to say the wiring isn't a**e about ?
What happens if you leave the switch on the On position overnight ?

Boiler still working OK, so will leave switch in OFF position - 'quit while the going's good'.

Don't know about scale inhibitor, but we are in a very soft water area, so never have a problem with limescale.

    Thanks for all help.
