ES File Explorer Download. Is it safe for A Smartphone

Options
My second hand mobile smartphone does not have a file manager installed on it. It is a Motorola G second generation. I want download some music and use it as my ringtone. I have sent myself an E Mail and put into my phones downloads but it will not me set it up as a ringtone.I have also tried to connect my phone via an USB connection to my PC. Although the phone appears it does not let me go into the ringtone or any other section of my smartphone. It has been suggested I try downloading ES File explorer App and I will be able to set up a ringtone that way. I am very cautious when setting up Apps unknown to me is this one OK and good way to set up a new ringtone, Thank you for any feedback or advice.

i don't understand why you can't connect phone to pc via usb and and transfer ringtone into the relevant folder on phone. have you installed the relevant driver?

Enable the Developer options on your phone. (Go to Settings and find the Build Number ... start tapping it; after about 7 taps the Developer options will be enabled).

Once you have this mode you'll be able to turn on USB Debugging, which may allow you to access the Ringtones folder.

That said, you shouldn't need to do the above. As long as you've connected via USB and made sure the connection is MTP (and not PTP) then you should be able to see all the relevant folders (except hidden system folders).

The older version of this app was removed from the Play Store by Google and I had an email advising me to uninstall it from my phone.

This version, although having the same name appears to be by a different developer.

This link explains why the old one was removed.

I actually use FX file explorer .

Note a number of apps have been withdrawn / blocked by Play store recently /
  • Sorry I am still struggling here. I have adjusted USB debugging but that has achieved nothing. When I connect my phone via a USB connection to my PC my phone does appear but comes up with File empty and I cannot get into any settings on my smartphone. Any further suggestions please. It so frustrating. All i want to do it put a piece of music as my ringtone.

Not familiar with the phone but do you have a pull down menu option where you can select file transfer?

I use 'File Manager +', free so far. it turns your phone into an ftp server, then use filezilla - all over wifi

it allows me to copy to and from the sd card, have not tried to access the other parts of the mobile
