Bank Credit Reversal

Options
I sold an item by private treaty which needed collection.I was paid by bank transfer. Due to collection problems (large item) I still have it 6 weeks later. The buyer now proposes I pay towards the re collection which I will not do.I have offered a full refund plus the cost of the original collection. The buyer will not gave me Bank Details to refund nor will my bank.
Am I being unreasonable ?and what more can I do ?

Give them a reasonable period to collect the item failing which you'll remarket it?

Its a private sale of a table and chairs .No traders involved.I may just send a cheque to the home address by recorded delivery.

Did they say why they think you should pay for the 2nd collection?

Was it actually for collection (as in advertised as buyer arranges collection) or did you promise delivery? What was the issues with the first attempt?

They arranged collection and we were on holiday .I arranged for my son to be available but said we would need contacting before to get a time of collection.I was not contacted by the buyer despite it being a tracked delivery.I had told the buyer a 4 hour window of delivery was unacceptable as my son lived 5 mins away.He also told me he had instructed the courier to call with eta.never happened.

How much was the collection charge (if you know)? How much would it cost you to remarket the goods and would you achieve the same sales price?

The pragmatic approach may be to agree to split the (reasonable) cost 50:50 with the proviso that a) you'll refund the 50% amount after collection, and b) any further failure to collect will result in no contribution from you, plus you'll issue a refund via cheque if they're unwilling to provide their bank account details.

Thanks for the replies. If I do not hear soon I will go down the cheque route.I have not heard from my buyer since my last contact.I believe game playing thinking due to the pressure of moving soon I will relent.
It beggars belief that furniture in perfect condition that cost thousands of pounds 25 years ago sold for less than £200 is causing so many issues..

Your buyer sound to be a bit of a jackass and presumably does not want the refund
If he doesn't want to collect he doesn't get the goods

Which is why we contacted a charity who came and collected ALL of the stuff we did not need when moving.
