Old Style Daily Friday 22nd November

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I am sat here with matchsticks holding my eyes open as I have been up for ages. I had backache as the new bed, although it's comfy props you up at a strange angle sometimes. Yesterday I went upstairs and sat on my own bed and I have decided that I will be moving back up there over the weekend :j

Steve has resigned from work at last. He is taking his letter of resignation in this morning and then we will have the joy of navigating the benefits system. We are a universal credit area now so that will be interesting. I have the number of an advisor to ring if I get stuck though so hopefully it will be straight forward.

I fancy baked fish in batter for dinner tonight. I hope we have some in the freezer or I will ask Steve to pick some up while he is out. My diet continues to be pretty good with lots and lots of fresh fruit and veg. It is a bit hard though as Steve likes to have a late night snack of a sandwich and crisps and always offers to make me some as well. So far I can mostly resist the siren call of the potato crisp and sandwiches but it can feel a bit challenging. I wouldn't ask Steve to stop though as he is so fab at looking after me I can put up with a bit of late night scoffing, I am usually in bed anyway, it's just that my bed is downstairs at the moment and so is he :D.

It's good to hear you sounding a bit more perkier JackieO. I can imagine how frustrating it is for you when you are normally such an active person. I really hope your shoulder heals quickly and you can get your busy life back. Enjoy your visits from the grandchildren, they are such a joy aren't they xx

Well, I am off to peruse Amazon's sale for a while. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Thanks for the early start dumpling. Enjoy being in your own bed, there's nothing like it!

Finished work early to go and collect something for school, returned books to the library and called into a local clothing store. Now, I detest any kind of shopping but they had a good sale on and I got lots of very much needed new clothes, only one blouse to return. I also have to return a couple of pairs of trousers to Sainsbugs, I bought them last week but really don't like them, that's tomorrow's job.

A couple more presents ordered too - I will have this present malarky sorted by next weekend!

I went to help the Guides make a cotton bag each last night, 4 of us beavering away with sewing machines and 27 bags made. They looked quite good for a rushed job too.

Glad it's Friday, feel like the year has run away with me and I've so much I want to get done.

    Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off, Universal credit is a minefield, are you completely sure that you'll be able to claim? They may not allow you to claim due to giving up work voluntarily or at least make you wait a number of months before claiming. There's all sorts of rules that are much more strict than the old system. I worry for you that you'll be very much worse off and struggling from one month to the next.

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Still dark, wet underfoot, air much warmer, not sure if it's still raining - it must have started sometime during the night.

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, LO mash, mushrooms and beans. Tonight will be something and chips for the menfolk.

I'll be heading out first thing to do the food shop, then home to pack it away, do some ironing and getting the fruit weighed and into a bowl with rum to soak ready for making my xmas cake - a bit late but it'll be fine.

Yesterday I got done what I wanted, may sit and do some wrapping this afternoon.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks for starting Dumpling, you sound pretty upbeat !

It's dry I think, cold of course. Yesterday was dampish with an east wind, brr.

I managed to get myself organised a bit yesterday and did quite a bit in the way of laundry and housework. Had to use the TD as nothing was going to dry outside, don't expect it at this time of year.. I even made a couple of Christmas cards for my card making friends, I can hardly go to card making next week with bought cards! I've got more to do, not many, we are only a small group. I'm keeping them simple, so it's quicker.

Dh took the Oz boys' Christmas cards to the PO so they are out of the way.

It's more of the same today, I 'll go out though, as I need a new watch strap and there's a man on the market who does them at a good price, I always go to him for straps and batteries,

That's it really - hope everyone has as good a day as they can.

    Take care folks xx
  • Morning folks and thanks DUMPLING. Much milder here this morning but that's because the rain is due back again! The dry spell was nice whilst it lasted.

I think the lurgy has landed at my door. now After a few days of a sore throat, I was coughing, peffing and sneezing away through the night. Bah!

DGDs confirmation went well last night, as did our family celebration afterwards. As usual we made far too much food, but better too much than not enough! I'm sure it will all get eaten up over the next day or two.

Last Christmas was a bit of a non-event really, coming so close after losing Bob. I thought this year I might feel a bit more motivated but sadly not. I have been buying stuff to put away throughout the year but I am still left with the main presents to buy and I can't summon up any enthusiasm for trawling the shops. I have made half-hearted searches on the internet for inspiration to no avail. Next week I must make an effort.

Today I have the pleasure (not) of the Friday clean around. It will be the usual lick and a promise the way I feel.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want and I hope the convalescents continue to convalesce well. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Raining here and set in for the day i think slightly milder though which is good.

Off to work for me and its Friday !! which is much needed, there are lots of changes happening at work with a few redundancies which is unsettling for everyone so there is not a good atmosphere atm.

Im off shopping with dd tomorrow to try and finish my xmas shopping I will have to get a few fresh bits nearer the time for my in laws hamper but want to get the main bits done tomorrow if possible, I also loathe shopping and like to get it done well before Xmas. My most hated job of the year is the wrapping and I would gladly pay someone to do it for me !!

Not sure about dinner tonight but might do a baked sweet potato with some cheese and ham and salad.

TA hope you feel better soon xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning everyone,

    Happy Friday!!

Yesterday was my fortnightly trip to the physio only for him to tell me that he doesn't want to see me anymore given my progress. The best break-up I've ever experienced. So that's a decent bit of money saved moving forward. I then headed home for my catch up with my gran and told her the news about my interest in The Reserves. She too wasn't particular pleased as the artillery are the front line and most in danger. But her husband, my grandad, and other members of her family served in the military, so it's not something completely new to her. I'll give her and my mum some time to let it sink in.

I then had football training which didn't finish till 10pm, meaning my heart is still racing at like 11pm, despite all showered and in bed. Subsequently, no gym this morning but I'lll defo go after work.

Dumpling - Despite the poor night sleep, you seem determined, organised and forward thinking. Enjoy your new/old bed over the weekend haha!
TA - Well, from an MSE perspective, you have the Black Friday sales coming up online, so you might see some inspiration and a bargain at the same time
RR - Is your job going to be safe?
  • Good morning and thank you for starting us off Dumpling.

Slightly warmer here but very damp. It is raining halfheartedly and the forecast is for heavy rain later. I have the first wash load in and it will all have to go on racks. The towels can wait in the hope of a dry day.

I did housework yesterday as OH and DS were out so not much of a Friday Tidy today, good because I've no enthusiasm for it today.

JackieO good to see that you are feeling a bit more upbeat.

Dumpling I hope things work out financially.

Has anyone heard from Hollyharvey recently?

Hoping that everyone has a good day.

    Good late morning folks.

Yesterday was another good day. Did my exercises and walked around the flat. My friend came over to do a little fresh shopping for us so that broke up the day.

Today a different friend is coming over in the afternoon to change my dressing. He's a paramedic and happy to help. I can't reach it properly. Happily, the stitches are dissolvable so I don't need them taken out. Before that I'll have another shower.

    Busy day!! :rotfl:

My thoughts are still with the missing and struggling. Happy Friday.
  • Coffee break time (well actually liquorice tea break time!) 'cos I feel like a little rant! I have heard this morning that our bus service into town is getting reduced yet again! It used to be every 10 mins, then shrunk to 20 mins, then shrunk to 30 mins and now it is shrinking to one an hour!! That's ok for going down I suppose, if you time it right to get to the bus stop! But if you are held up and just miss one back up again an hour is a long time to wait!

If we hadn't lost our Post Office, newsagents and other little shops in recent years we may not need to go in town as much but, as it is, we have to go down for everything we need! A village with no facilities, a poor bus service and yet they want permission to build another 160 houses up here!

Ok folks rant over - sorry about that!! I'll get off my soapbox now and go back to my cleaning!

    Take care all xx
