I did notice the OP stated she was placed in this private rented house by the council while awaiting social housing. She has no choice, she has to stay there if she can't afford a private rental. This was clearly stated in the first post.
I would wait until after the election and get your MP involved again, whoever they may be.
Being a bit anxious myself (and we all have ASD) I appreciate why you asked for notice re repairs but this is going to cause problems. Contractors just want to get the job done, don't understand anxiety and ASD. Grit your teeth and let them come in when they turn up. Its the best way to get the situation dealt with. It must be causing some anxiety to have the situation hanging over you. Just help it get sorted. Don't perpetuate it. Keep your son in another room and distracted, it can be done, particularly if you have a smile on your face - your son will feel your anxiety (I have learned to take a deep breath and put my actor face on). I am wearing the Tshirt for this lolol.0 -
Have you thought about visiting Citizens Advice? They are well trained and should be able to more in depth help than we can. I suggest you get an appointment rather than walk in and tell them what the problem is. Landlord/tenant law can be horribly complicated and they should give you an appointment with the best person. They may also be able to help you find someone to go to the tribunal with you if you can’t find anyone
Is it the same builder who is doing most of the work? If so would you be able to talk to him and arrange mutually convenient times for the work to be carried out? This would help with the stress enormously.
I understand this may p*** the LL off but from what you have told us he is a nasty so and so and you are never going to get on. Don’t forget you and your son are the most important thing, not your LL
I had a LL/tenant issue a while ago and the people on here were amazingly helpful. So we are here for you both. Let us know how you get on.0 -
Thanks everyone,
I am going to give Citizens Advice a call today I have woke up with a bit of energy in me this morning, no he is getting all sorts of different people and different quotes off people (which I understand) so it’s loads of visits off different people.
The council have informed him that there was no rush because of my sons needs and he chose to ignore that, I ended up cutting off contact with the landlord/s blocking their numbers, the council have intervened and said that contact must be through them and they will ask me if times and dates are ok before anyone is to come around and also that a housing officer is present when the landlord is here. They have also said he has legal duties and obligations to keep a house in a good state of repair, they can see i look after the house (OCD in me) I re-paint it every year so I’m not a bad tenant.
I’ll update when I have heard off citizens advice.
Thanks all for your help and understanding I appreciate it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
