How to claim for value of fire water damaged contents?

I asked this question on the Insurance forum but no one seems to know the answer so I an trying here. Our next door neighbours burnt their house down this summer and our house was badly affected by fire and water damage. A lot of our contents had to be written off. Our insurers sent in their loss adjuster team who photographed all the damaged stuff and recorded it, before chucking it out.

They gave us copies of the lists and left saying we would get an offer from them about now. But I just got a call from their senior loss adjuster asking when I was going to submit my claim. Does anyone know how it works, do I wait for them to make an offer or do I submit my claim based on their records they gave me copies of?,

The only time I had to make an insurance claim for ruined items I had to put in my claim and I had to have receipts to prove when we bought the items and their value. Hopefully you insurance company won't insist on receipts.

    I'd ask the insurance company.

Typically you would give a list of items damaged and their REPLACEMENT cost.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

If your insurer already sent in the loss adjuster, surely the claim is already in progress? I recently had a major leak and don't recall having to submit a claim halfway through the process.

In my case, I found like-for-like items online and was reimbursed replacement costs.
