Water hammer - seems to be coming from within boiler.

Started experiencing a banging noise coming from the boiler (combi). Only happens when system isn't in use. I've isolated the boiler from power, so assume the problem is water related.
I've had three plumbers in, who couldn't find any issues with boiler.
Checked the stop tap, was seized, so replaced it.
Solved the problem for about 4 days - has now come back with a vengance.
Interesting to note - started around 4 am this morning (nothing in my house was calling for water) - I do believe next door (connected semi) had the washing machine on.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks
