Thank you to everyone who took the time to read and help with this.
I had raised the issue with Google several hours ago and after frequent checking have now discovered that all is well again and working as it should.
Than k you.0 -
Hmm, the only other thing I can think of that could be causing this is to start Firefox in its Safe mode and see if the problem reoccurs:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode
This issue came up on Bugzilla a couple of years ago and the solution then was to do a Firefox reset and the issue was solved:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1418837
The only other things I have is a firewall issue, an extension issue (Privacy Badger seems to be the most likely cause) or an anti-virus issue, but the fact it follows across five different computers makes that incredibly unlikely.
If all the devices connect wirelessly, last thing to do is just unplug the router for two minutes and wait for it to reinitialise. If any are wired and they go into network switches, power cycle them too.0 -

Please don't leave us hanging, what was the solution? For the benefit of others.0 -

I have no idea. I went through their help routine which culminated in me sending a description of the problem via a web form and when I sent it the screen said "Thanks for contacting us. We'll follow up with you only if we need more information or have additional information to share."
Then several hours later I found that I could access the drive again. So I assume they fixed something. It has made me rethink entrusting my data to Google though.0
