SORN Justice procedure notice

Hi All, let me start by saying I know I've been a bit stupid on this one but…

Some time ago I sold my old car, and promptly parked it on the drive (clearly off-road) while I sold it through auto-trader (I need to add it WAS taxed, I was paying the tax by direct debit six months in advance,)… Needless to say the sale took a little longer than expected.. During this time I received notice from DVLA that I should declare the vehicle, SORN .. But I thought I won't do that because it will sell any day.

Eventually – it sold on 18 July.... some weeks later. I received notification that I had been fined because the vehicle did not have insurance or SORN on 18 July… I do have the V5 document signed and dated by myself and the purchaser on 18 July.. And I did promptly forward it to DVLA on that day.

I accept the vehicle was not insured( I swapped the new vehicle the old vehicle on my policy)

I have since written and told them this – but now I have received a single justice procedure notice telling me that I need to pay the fine or go to court?

Was I committing an offence by not having a SORN on the day the vehicle was sold?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received about it (both sides, if appropriate, but without your VRN or name/address showing) as they need to see all of it.
