Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, invisible and highly toxic gas produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, such as natural gas, coal, wood, petrol and paraffin.
Potential sources of carbon monoxide:
  • Gas Appliances
  • Wood or gas fireplace

  • Clogged chimney flue
  • Gas water heater
  • Car or garage
  • Cigarette smoke

There are3 indicator lamps on the front of the unit:

Green - Flashes every minute to show alarm is working

Yellow - Indicates a fault
Red - The light will be on if the alarm is detecting Carbon Monoxide. It will be accompanied by a series of four beeps followed by a 5 second pause.

Test Button on the front of the unit allows you to check that the alarm is functioning.

If there is a fuel burning appliance in the room that you use a lot e.g. the sitting room, you should put it in that room.

If you live in a bed-sit put the alarm as far away from the cooking appliances as possible but near the place where you sleep.

Watch out for the American spelling "colorless" in the Wiki info :)

    From the site itself:
Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, invisible and highly toxic gas produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, such as natural gas, coal, wood, petrol and paraffin.
