Squeaky bed / mattress driving me mad!

We have an infuriating squeak coming from either our bed frame or our mattress. It's not there 100% of the time and doesn't always happen if only one of us is on the bed, but when both of us get in it starts up.
The tiniest movement can set it off, even moving an arm!
It seems to come from the middle of the bed but I can't work out if it's from the mattress or frame. The mattress has springs in it, the frame is wooden slats with some metal support. I've looked round the metal parts and they don't seem to be loose. It sounds like a metal squeak, but can wood make a similar sound?
I turned the mattress round already to no avail . I also separated the mattress and frame and put pressure on both to replicate the noise but couldn't do it.
Any ideas? I'll get a can of WD40 to spray the joints but I don't think that's where the sound is coming from. I also heard that wrapping the wooden slats in old socks can reduce friction.

Not too sure about this - the obvious culprit would be a loose joint somewhere. Probably the simplest thing to try would be to go round the frame and loosen off every nut/bolt/screw you can find. Try putting some talcum powder into every joint you can, then go round and re-tighten everything. With any luck this might just do the trick. Talcum powder is quite an effective lubricant, and won't attract dust and dirt like WD40 can do.
It may or may not work - but it'll cost nothing (apart from a tiny bit of talc) to try, so there's nothing lost.0 -
Cheers I'll try tonight.
I can't work out if the sound is a creak or squeak, plus the way a tiny movement can set it off got me suspecting the mattress. Do spring mattresses make these noises too?0 -
Hi, I have similar when I bought a new mattress. So bad I got the rep to visit. He claimed it was because the spacing between the slats on the frame was too great. Yeah right. To be fair it doesn't make any noise when mattress is on the floor. :-(

Squeaky floorboard?0

I had a similar problem . Well tbh, it was the same combined with my pillows falling behind my head and onto the floor . My bed hasn't got a headboard . Stupid trendy design .
What I did was take off mattress, pull up the bed frame a couple of inches towards headboard and tighten with an Allen key . I then checked the wooden slats were properly aligned by gently seeing if the plastic brackets actually moved when touching them . If they did I clicked them into place . If the wood slats were loose I'd take them out and also take bracket out of frame and click them back in.
When it felt solid, I put mattress back and all was ok.
It took me a very long time to find out .
Hope my tale is of some use0 -
When you move, you disturb the mice. The solution is to get rid of the mice.0
