I requested a homerbuyers report for a new purchase which has subsequently fallen through. I have not received the homebuyers report as yet which has been completed, as you i need to pay in advance.

Do i still need to pay for the report?

Please clarify what this means. If you have to pay in advance for it, then surely you've already paid!
  • So you’ve instructed a homebuyers report, s/he’s completed it and you don’t want to pay?

Who did the report? Bank or private?

What do you mean by "has been completed"? If they've carried out the survey and written the report then you're not going to get a refund.

Conversely, if they have not yet visited the property tell them immediately and you may or may not get a refund.
  • To clarify they (A third party surveyor) have visited the property and completed the report, the payment has to be provided before the report is released.

Normally you pay the fee before they visit - if they have done what you have asked them then you would need to pay. If you are saying you havent paid but no longer want it now then take a read of their terms and conditions and see what it says about cancelling a report once they have visited the property.

You've paid for a service which they have done. Whether the deal for the house falls through is none of their business. Sorry but you take the hit here as there is no argument to be had for a refund.

Whether it's released or not, you are still liable to pay for the service that you contracted to buy, unless the contract says otherwise. I doubt that it does though!

Been there. It's a pain but as has been said, it's part of the house buying/selling roller-coaster.

If the house you were looking to buy is still on the market, you could try approaching the seller to see if they'd be willing to negotiate a price to take the report off your hands? Could be useful for any future potential buyers they get.
