O/S Daily Wednesday 20 November 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still, dark and cold start to the day, but not as frosty as yesterday.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was beef stew, dumplings, mash, peas, LO veg from Sunday's roast - all LO's now eaten and nothing thrown away. I didn't get the meat out for tonight's dinner as I forgot - so need to organise that but need to buy more bread on the way home tonight so will pick something up then.

Yesterday work was ok, I had most of the morning in a training session, then lunch, I then spent the afternoon doing the normal job - we had times where it was very busy and then it eased off around 3.45pm. Today is my last working day this week, although I'm working Saturday morning.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

    Thanks for the start nmlc.

It's raining! The first rain we've seen for a week or so, not as cold so I suppose that's a bonus.

Work was particularly busy yesterday, I was glad when I finished. Met a friend for something to eat after for a catch up. We had a bargain meal (2 for £12) and it was really good.

Wrapped a few more Christmas presents last night, must make a list of what I still need to get but it's not much now thank goodness.

Hope all's well with you, enjoy Wednesday, take care. XX

    Morning all

Cold here but not as frosty as yesterday heating has come on though so all warm in here.

Off to work today and my foot does seem ok, and it seems a lot better with just a bit of pain coming towards the end of the working day, so much better, hope it continues !!

Specky OH and I watched the 'frosbit' thing we were screaming with laughter it was brilliant, although it was hard to understand we got the gist of what he was trying to say, it was very funny !!

Got some odd bits to use up in the fridge, a few bits of bacon three sausages a few mushrooms, so will do a low fat 'grill up'with bread and butter for an easy dinner will do some beans with it too.

Bins need to go out this morning, will put a wash on tonight when I get home.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. No frost this morning - instead we have fog! But it feels a little bit milder!

I had my usual nice coffee and lunch meet up and natter with Tuesday friend yesterday and remembered to pick up the little light up twig tree from DS's DP's new shop. As well as a cute photo frame for DD that caught my eye. She really has some lovely items but you can't buy everything you like sadly!

Bargain buy from the grocery/frozen food shop. They were selling blocks of Paneer off 4 for £1. I rang DD to see if she wanted any and she said Yes, as much as you can carry as it freezes ok. I got her 8 blocks for £2 which chuffed her to bits as she had just paid £7 for 2 blocks from the Asian sm!! I see lots of curries on the menu at her house!

Today it's the Golden Girls bus ride day. 3 of us gallivanting off today. We haven't been to Skipton for a while so may end up there. A vote will decide! Of course lunch and wine will be involved wherever we end up as that's the highlight of the day!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. May the convalescents continue to improve. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone.

    Week one done!

Rain here too so not so chilly. I’ve just heard Carol Kirkwood say that Argyll will have heavy blustery rain today so perhaps I’m better off here. Certainly I couldn’t be carrying in wood from the barn so will be thankful for DM’s central heating.

Yesterday was a rough day for me so I went to bed really early after taking some pain killers which helped me sleep. I was awake about 2.30am sending email for a wee while though I soon dropped off again.

Already I feel better so it’s a day of resting and exercising. Exercises need to be done five times a day.

TA - enjoy your jaunt, thanks for the Broccoli Cheesy Bake info!

RedR - lovely to hear your pain levels have dropped.

Thoughts to all and Happy Wednesday too.
  • Good morning and thanks NMLC.

It's a still grey morning here, no frost, yet it was frosty last nught when we walked home from the quiz.

Hope you have a better day today Gers, and RR hope your foot continues to improve.

Didn't seem to do much yesterday. I got home from the hospital, on the way back we called at Farm Fo*ds, and got a few bargains, so that was good.

Dgs came late afternoon while Mum took his sister to an after school activity she's started, then we went to the quiz,
I'm going to the Metrocentre today, I've got a list to fulfil and I like it there for shopping. I like Newcastle, but at the Metro you're out of the weather, not that it's bad today.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday, take care folks
  • Good morning and happy hump day to one and all!

I left work sharpish yesterday and had just enough time to get home make my dinner, lemon and homemade pesto gnocchi, before having to dart out again to meet with The Reserves. I then told my mum for the first time I was going through the process and she was speechless. Not sure what sort of reaction I expected but I don't think it was that. She's my go to person for an honest answer and she'll never shy away from telling me her thoughts, even if it's not what I want to hear. So silence was a bit peculiar. I'm not set on the idea and I'm still in the curious/fact-finding stage, so we're both in the same boat in terms of not knowing what the future holds. The positive is that there's no conflict just now, meaning all troops are just being trained, which to me sounds like tons of fun that I can do in my spare time. Anyway...

Went to the gym this morning. I'll nip into yoga at lunch and I might, depending on what time I finish, go a light run tonight too. Nothing else to do aside from make my dinner which is pomegranate chicken with almond couscous.

RR - I'm glad you liked it. I think I was in tears of laughter the first time I heard it and I must honestly watched it dozens of times since then.
TA - Very MSE of you. Well done!

Morning all! I have finally got up at a fairly reasonable hour [ I have had coffee and a potter so far today] and will be showering in a bit so I can get going.
I have filled up the boot of the car with things for the dump but forgotten it's shut today, so at least I can put a bit more in it before tomorrow. Then there's the logisitics of getting it back and thoroughly cleaned for Saturday. I'll e going away for a week to visit relatives and will have limited internet.
Bought myself a very new fangled thing for holding my bits and pieces of DIY stuff, like nails, screws, drill bits etc that are cluttering up my tool case so I can't get to any tools. Comes with wheels and a handle like a suitcase so easily moved around too.Bought myself a barometer too from a charity shop because I've always wanted one, and it's very pretty and compact.
Today I'm meeting friends for lunch and will attempt not to go craz spending money. I feel an overhaul of everything is coming in the new year.

Hope everyones face and aches are healing well...Speky, am I right in thinking you mean you're joining the army? If that was the first your mam heard about it maybe she was a bit shocked you hadn't told her you were thinking about it...TA, enjoy your day out! Gers, you go girl! but very slowly...and carefully :) AOD , hope you're wrapped up today..nanny, hope you're feeling less coughy today...Hope everyone is OK, SO, and Holly, you two too! When's it stop Wednesday!

Hello all, it's a grey and windy day here.
I had a rubbish night, lots of coughing and very little sleep. Put the kybosh on today's "garden centre for coffee" outing, we were looking forward to it as we haven't been in ages. TBH I wanted to go to take Mr Fix It's mind off this afternoons oncology review appointment. I know he's always nervous about it. Luckily this one is via the telephone at 4pm so we have no need to leave the house. Today I will be cwtched up on the sofa under my blanky, feeling sorry for myself and watching films........there's nothing that has to be done today anyway.
Sending healing vibes to the poorly ones and hope those recuperating from falls/operations are well on the mend. Hugs to anyone who is in need for what ever reason or no reason at all. The hug bucket is overflowing please help yourselves.
Take care all and keep warm

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I am having a good day so far. Last night I had a major wobble with feeling under a lot of pressure to recover more quickly. I hasten to say this isn't Steve putting pressure on me but my own stupid brain telling me to push harder. We still haven't sorted out the finances and Steve hasn't earned any money this month. The benefits adviser came to see us yesterday which helped a bit but it is still that I am waiting for Steve to decide what he is going to do.

An occupational therapist came to see me this morning. She was so lovely and helpful and I feel very positive that I will get out of this house and maybe even get to see the Christmas lights this year. She wants me to start going to the hospital gym which I am kind of looking forward to.

Steve has cleared the bedroom of a load of boxes so I will be sleeping upstairs very soon :D:D. The O.T. is also organising for another commode to be delivered for upstairs as our loos are tiny and we could not fit the both of us in there :rotfl: and I definitely do not want to traumatise my teens with the sight of me having my bum wiped TMI I know :o:o.

Lilly has appeared after being away for a few nights needing sleep and food in that order. I will make her some wraps later when she wakes up. Phoebe has gone back to work today. I think she is being very very brave as she was so nervous and a bit embarrassed. The thing is everyone loves her at work as she is such a sweet hard working member of staff so hopefully they will all be kind today.

I think we are having the pork loin steaks for tea tonight as we ended up having faggots last night instead and they were lovely.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up, take care xx
  • Aftetnoon all. Bright and sunny here but chilly DH has gone to A*da for a few things and I am having a cupps and a sit down.

We went out for lunch yesterday with the knitting group. DH and another chap are the drvers and sit together and put the world to rights while we chat about all things yarn related. We had a nice meal but the pub got very crowded.

Gers one week in woo hoo heep going. TA broccoli and cheese bake yum. I had lasagne, salad and garlic bread yesterday. Dumpling the gym sounds good. You go girl!
Nanny w I have had this cough thing for three weeks and it is just about going. Keep wrapped up and warm JackieO sending you healing vibes.

Well have a good day folks.
