Why such high electricity bills?

They will all be exactly the same. If you use a 3kW fan heater for four hours it will use 12kWh of electricity, just as a 3kW electric fire or a 3kW oil-filled radiator would do, assuming that a thermostat doesn't click in. Just look at the rating plate on the device.somuchindebt wrote: »Hope you don't mind me asking but what free standing electric heater would be cheapest to run?
About the only case where one device is better than another is with storage heaters. Older ones didn't have much insulation, clever timers and controls. The result was that the room was warm most of the night, wasting energy and money. Modern fan assisted ones are better, so they're better at releasing heat only when it is needed. They don't break the rule that a kilowatt is a kilowatt, they just reduce the amount that's wasted at the wrong times.
Just remember that full price electricity is about the most expensive heating you can have and should be avoided wherever possible.0
