Someone suggested it may be some sort of scam and someone may call me in a few weeks to say they had credited my account in error and ask me for my bank details to allow them to recover the money, but I cant see how this would work.
Almost certianly not a scam, it'll be a !!!! up on their side.
Call them again and insist they resolve it sharpish. By leaving the money in your account they are, effectively, burdening you with the responsibility to look after something of value that belongs to them - without you having agreed to do so beforehand.0 -
Problem solved .......
When the dealer receives on line pre payments for services, someone in accounts has to check a few weeks later that the car has been serviced, and if not the payment is refunded. It seems that although my car had been serviced, it was not recorded, hence the refund. When I spoke to the accounts person he told me that he knew there was a discrepancy in his balance but hadnt managed to track down the error. He said they would have tracked it down eventually but I just saved them a lot of work! The money has now gone back to the dealer!0
