Toilet seat hinge replacement

One of the toilets in our house has hinges that are peeling (e.g. not solid metal) and it cannot be cleaned properly. The peeling just gets worse and looks nasty.
I don't mind buying a whole new seat, but will the hinge fittings likely be universal - not sure on my toilet standards!

To err is human, but it is against company policy.

Unless the toilet seat is made for a specific toilet pan, it will come with universal fittings that will fit 99.9% of all toilets. You would have to have an antique toilet pan for the universal fitting not to fit.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Thanks, that is good to know. I considered measuring in a shop and comparing, but know my luck there would be something different, so I thought I would ask the silly question and be better prepared! To err is human, but it is against company policy.0 -
I worked at B&Q and unless things have changed in the last 10 years since i finished, we sold about 4/5 different fitting for toilet seats. Ie they where not universal in the slightest.
Then youve also got the issue of the shape of the toilet seat fitting nicely with the pan.
Id go and measure up in the shop.
edit just checked.
eg

hinge width, 90mm to 190mm
and

Hinge width 145 - 165mm0 -
In this case, I will measure up mine first and that should help identify something in the shop.To err is human, but it is against company policy.0

IMO, the main concern is that holes for screws are likely not to match. If they don't, the old holes have to be filled, and it's hard to make it nicely if they aren't hidden under the new hinges.0
