Doesn't make sense to me either, I assume all the volumes nowadays are in the SUVs but these seem to be priced 40-70k currently so that (or perhaps 50-90) is where I would have expected them to come back at in electric form.
    I think....

They spent a huge sum developing the electric XJ & then canned it without carrying over any of that development into the new platform.
I have read a lot about the new XJ being all-electric.
I assumed that the new £100k Jaguar referenced in the recent posts would be the XJ and that would then be followed by cascading down the model line-up to the XF and the XE.
£100k for an XJ would complete with the Mercedes EQS, and the cascade down to the XF would compete with the EQE and then follow the trend.
I agree that the iPACE was putting Jaguar ahead of the curve and it would be odd if they scrapped all the development knowledge from the iPACE and whatever was invested in the all-electric XJ.  Perhaps the "all new" part is marketing so that when Jaguar launch the new electric range they have the positioning message that this is all the very latest you can get, while in fact some if legacy from the iPACE and electric XJ ...
The iPace & the iPace platform is being discontinued & Jaguar have started from scratch with a completely new EV concept. They did design & engineer a production ready XJ with an entirely new platform but scrapped that as well. The new EV range has an entry level of £100K so there won't be a product to cover any of the existing market & the new platform & architecture is too costly for that anyway.

I'm not sure how big the market is for £100K vehicles with a 35% residual after 3 years? Pretty niche is my guess.

The iPace was built in a platform designed for combination engines. It's basically a dead end and limited as a result.

@Bendo The ipace was designed as an electric only car.

It sort of makes sense to me that the EV is launched from a higher price point.
Cars have become so easily accessible and driven to the lowest cost / sales base as a commodity item.
The motor industry is using (or attempting to use) the change to EV as a step-change upwards in price point under the guise of paying for the latest development.
Whether that is valid or will be successful only time will tell.

Whilst that's true, my point was, it was built on the JLR D7 platform which was designed for ICE cars and so is hugely compromised compared to cars built on platforms designed only to host a BEV drivetrain.

This is the reason it is being axed, its replacement will be on a pure BEV platform without the compromises that result.

Yeah, it does seem very high. In Europe at the higher end, the Tesla S and X start at £80k to £85k*, which I would have thought sets a rough guide price / reference point.

*More expensive in the UK and only available as LHD (not recommended, I'd say).
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

New Dacia Spring takes ‘cheapest electric car’ crown with sub-£15k starting price

Dacia’s zero-emissions city car arrives in the UK in October, with a price tag lower even than a petrol-powered Hyundai i10

UK pricing for the all-new Dacia Spring has been revealed at long last, and with a starting price of just £14,995 for the zero-emissions city car, not only does it take the title of Britain’s cheapest electric car, the Spring is deep in the top 10 list of the cheapest cars of any kind on sale in Britain.

I wonder whether Jaguar will sell more £100k EVs than Dacia sell £15k EVs?

After the initial flurry of orders, I'm concerned that sales of £100K Jaguars will be glacial. I would imagine (or should that be "re-imagine") it's squeaky bum time at Jaguar.
