Doesn't make sense to me either, I assume all the volumes nowadays are in the SUVs but these seem to be priced 40-70k currently so that (or perhaps 50-90) is where I would have expected them to come back at in electric form.I think....0

The Jaguar announcement doesn't make sense to me either, I assume all the volumes nowadays are in the SUVs (e pace and f pace) but these seem to be priced 40-70k currently so that (or perhaps 50-90) is where I would have expected them to come back at in electric form.

I assumed that the new £100k Jaguar referenced in the recent posts would be the XJ and that would then be followed by cascading down the model line-up to the XF and the XE.
£100k for an XJ would complete with the Mercedes EQS, and the cascade down to the XF would compete with the EQE and then follow the trend.
I agree that the iPACE was putting Jaguar ahead of the curve and it would be odd if they scrapped all the development knowledge from the iPACE and whatever was invested in the all-electric XJ. Perhaps the "all new" part is marketing so that when Jaguar launch the new electric range they have the positioning message that this is all the very latest you can get, while in fact some if legacy from the iPACE and electric XJ ...
I'm not sure how big the market is for £100K vehicles with a 35% residual after 3 years? Pretty niche is my guess.
The iPace was built in a platform designed for combination engines. It's basically a dead end and limited as a result.

Cars have become so easily accessible and driven to the lowest cost / sales base as a commodity item.
The motor industry is using (or attempting to use) the change to EV as a step-change upwards in price point under the guise of paying for the latest development.
Whether that is valid or will be successful only time will tell.0 -
Magnitio said:@Bendo The ipace was designed as an electric only car.Whilst that's true, my point was, it was built on the JLR D7 platform which was designed for ICE cars and so is hugely compromised compared to cars built on platforms designed only to host a BEV drivetrain. This is the reason it is being axed, its replacement will be on a pure BEV platform without the compromises that result.0
